7 Day Confidence and Ego-Boost Affirmation Plan Stephen Richards headset

Overview
In 7 Day Confidence and Ego-Boost Affirmation Plan (2011), self-help guru Stephen Richards champions
the use of affirmations for improving self-confidence. Simply repeating mantras doesn’t lead to success,
which is why this book is dedicated to providing specific affirmations that will change lives. Richards
argues that the only way to ensure an improved life is to repeat these affirmations with focus and
intensity, without which the affirmations would be useless. It is necessary to have a certain amount of
belief in these affirmations, or at least to pretend to believe in them until they start to work. By repeating
these affirmations out loud several times each day, readers will become confident enough to get through
any challenge by the time they finish the exercises in this book. Repeating the affirmations contained in
the text will internalize them and help to make them true even if at first they are hard to believe.

The affirmations include topics such as success, independence, and confidence as well as the treatment of
others and of oneself. These affirmations can help improve one’s home life, social life, work, and most
importantly, one’s idea of oneself. The affirmations are divided into seven days. While the days do not
have explicit themes, they can nevertheless be categorized into different prevailing ideas. Additionally,
the affirmations have no negative words in them so the reader will only be met with lovely and kind
thoughts.

Key Insights
#1 To be a strong person and succeed in the world, one must believe in oneself.

#2 Daily affirmations require active effort and routine if they are to have an impact.

#3 Day One affirmations ask readers to assert things about work, such as “I work hard, enjoy my work,
and am good at what I do.”

#4 Day Two affirmations are grouped around self-perception and ask the reader to affirm things like “I
like myself as a person, and am overall very successful.”

#5 Day Three affirmations concern personal independence and ask the reader to proclaim things like “I
am independent and make good decisions on my own.”

#6 Day Four affirmations concern interpersonal relationships and instruct the reader to state observations
like “I am able to work well with and inspire others.”

#7 Day Five affirmations are about work–life balance and encourage the reader to make affirmations like
“I am able to accomplish good balance in my life.”
#8 On Day Six, readers make affirmations about their initiative, such as “I take full advantage of all the
opportunities available in my wonderful life.”

#9 Day Seven affirmations are about self-mastery. The reader should make assertions like “I am in
control and self-confident.”

#10 Finally, it is incredibly important to fully believe in these affirmations. Without believing in them and
internalizing them, there can be no substantial improvement.

Important People
Stephen Richards is a clinical hypnotherapist and stress counselor. His work in the mental health industry
has provided him with a thorough knowledge of the intricacies of human insecurities and worries as well
as experience in helping others. Richards is an author, film director, producer, and self-help expert. He
has had numerous books published in segments in the national press and magazines, having authored well
over 90 titles to date.

Author’s Style
7 Day Confidence and Ego-Boost Affirmation Plan is a self-help book. The author’s style is
straightforward and intended to be uplifting. The text is easy to follow and Richards does not patronize
the reader. Most of the book consists of first-person affirmations intended to be easy for the reader to
repeat. The introduction functions as the instruction manual for the rest of the book; it emphasizes the
way that the affirmations can be used to full effect. Richards addresses the reader directly and seeks an
intimate connection between reader and author. His style is candid; he employs first-person pronouns and
observes where he believes other self-help books go wrong. The writing is quite confident, as
demonstrated by his recurring assurance that readers will be changed by the time they finish the exercises
—if they aren’t, he implies that it’s probably because they didn’t repeat them with enough intensity and
therefore the failure is their own.

Author’s Perspective
Stephen Richards notes in the introduction that he wrote the book after receiving many requests for help
from people with low self-confidence. He does not include much of his perspective to the book other than
highlighting the necessity of mindfulness and positivity when working on self-confidence. Richards adds
that he believes the exercise of changing one’s state of mind is easy if done correctly.

Intended Audience
The intended audience of 7 Day Confidence and Ego-Boost Affirmation Plan is anyone with low self-
confidence, particularly those who have tried other methods and failed, as this book purports to show
them the best way to proceed.
