World Geography and Intercultural Relationship

Compare and contrast physical geography and human or cultural geography

The word "geography" is a combination of the two words "geo" and "graphy".
That means “Description of the earth”. Geography is the answer to the question asked
by the earliest humans, "What's up there?” Searching and exploring new areas, new
cultures and new ideas have always been important geographical components.
Geography today is commonly divided into two major branches which are cultural
geography (also called as human geography) and physical geography.

According to Prof. C.H. Rabinson “Human Geography is the study of the nature
and distribution of relation-ships between geographical environment and human
activities and qualities.” Cultural Geography is a significant part of the course of human
geography. Human geography within the social sciences is one of the most involved
and interdisciplinary fields. This is the branch of geography that deals with human
culture and its impact on the world. Cultural geographers are study for their languages,
religion, food, architectural design, urban areas, agriculture, transport systems,
governance, economies, population and demographics, and more.

On the other hand, Physical geography is the geography branch that deals with
the earth's natural features, the home of human beings. It is closely related to the sister
science of geography, which is geology, but physical geography is more focused on the
Earth's surface landscapes and not on what is inside our planet. Physical geography
looks at the earth's water, weather, animals, and land (all that is part of the four spheres
which are the atmosphere, the biosphere, the hydrosphere, and the lithosphere).
Physical geography is one of the two important geographical sub-fields. Also, it has a
variety of sub-branches that handle various physical phenomena of different kinds.
To sum up, the human geography is about the places and cultures we live and
work in while cultural or physical geography shows the interrelationship between the
earth and our cultures within it. This helps us to understand, internationally and locally,
how and why the world is changing.
