Organisational Profile

The Genting Malaysia Berhad is the subsidiary of Genting Berhad and was founded in 1980
and is a private company involved in the tourist resorts industry in Genting Highlands
Malaysia.

The nature of business of Genting Malaysia Berhad are divided into two parts which are
leisure and hospitality sector, which has extended through the development of casinos and the
property segment. Genting Malaysia is the most well-managed company with leisure and
hospitality business activities involving hotels, entertainment, tours and so on. Moreover, the
development of properties, investment in properties and property management are part of the
property segment. (Reuters Editorial, n.d.) Genting’s first resort is Resort World Genting
which have five hotels. The hotels are Maxim Genting, Highland Hotel, Theme Park Hotel,
Resort Hotel and First World Hotel. Resort World Genting is the most popular destination for
local and foreign tourist. It had provided a lot of facilities, including casinos, food and drinks,
theme park and so on. The attractions of Resort World Genting are Sky Avenue and Genting

Apart from that, Genting Malaysia Berhad is one of the Malaysia's largest corporations had
owned and run. The company had more than 21000 employees worldwide and the total
investment of employees training in Malaysia and UK had RM8.2 million in 2018. Moreover,
in 2019, it had more than 20000 employees around the world and RM13.2 million of total

The vision of Genting is to become the world's leading integrated resort operator. There are
two missions of Genting Group, the first one is “We are committed towards providing the
most delightful and memorable experiences to our customers”. This means a company is
committed to providing its customers with a pleasant and unforgettable experience.
Moreover, another mission is “We aim to generate sustainable growth and profits, and to
consistently enhance our stakeholders’ value”. This means that the purpose of the company is
to increase the profits and to continuously increase the value of the stakeholders. (About

Apart of that, Genting Malaysia also have their competitors. Competitors can be like any
other company in a similar industry. Genting Malaysia is part of Malaysia’s themepark and
hotel sector. Besides, Genting also faces competition from the Sunway Group Malaysia, Lego

Moreover, the revenue of Genting Malaysia’s statistical data is shown in appendix 1 and 2.
The diagram shows the revenue of Genting Malaysia for the year 2015 and 2019. Revenue is
keep increasing from 2015 to 2019. Besides, it is clear that 2019 has the highest revenue of
RM10.4 billion compared to 2015 to 2018. (Financial Snapshot in 2019, n.d.)

The idea of resort world located near Kuala Lumpur came from the founder, Tan Sri Lim
Goh Tong, when he was in Cameron Highlands during a business trip and experienced the
cool air on the mountain in 1963. He was the Malaysian Chinese businessman and
entrepreneur. He imagined a prosperous future for Malaysia, hoping to be accessible to all
Malaysians in a cool mountain resort. Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong retired in December 2003 and
handed over the company to his son, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive
of the Genting Group, who joined the Group in 1976. (History, n.d.)
