ESTS AND RESULTS
TE S

Thiss chapter prresents the test

t and ressults of the prototype
p of
o home auttomation
system buillt accordingg to the prooposed systtem described in previous chapterrs. Tests
and results are done inn each of thee sections.

4.1. Tests and

a Resultss for Security System
Thee proposed home
h securrity system consists
c of password-pprotected maain door
security sysstem for froont entry, lin
ne security system
s for door
d and wiindow securrity, and
the smoke detector
d sysstem for firee alarm and fire extingu
uishing.

4.1.1. Testss and Resultts for Main Door Securrity System

In the
t door seccurity system, user muust enter thee password in keypad module.
Each time user pressees the key, the buzzerr will beep. The displlay of this security
system is ass shown in Figure 4.1 on
o the systeem startup.

Thee default passsword usedd to test in experiments

e s is ‘1234’. This is assiigned by
programmeer in the prrogram for this securiity system. This can be
b changedd to any
desired passsword wheen user succcessfully ennters the coorrect passw
word. The leength of
password iss four. The user
u can chhoose from any o numbers.

If thhe passwordd entered is correct, theen it will shhow ‘Passkeey Acceptedd’ on the
display as shown in Figure
F 4.2. And
A then, the
t door is opened andd the user can
c now
enter the house. Moreeover, the notification
n about the entry
e will be
b sent to user,

user can knnow it aboutt the entry in
n the appliccation assignned for it.

As soon as the password is

i granted, the
t user cann now assignn new passw
word by
pressing ‘##’ key. Afteer entering the
t new password to be

d correctly, the new
password can

4.1.2. Testss and Resultts on Line Security

S Sysstem
Thee line securiity system using
u laser line as the security lin
ne, which iss usually
mounted onn the wall, is
i as shownn in Figure 4.5.
4 For eassier installattion on everywhere
in the buillding, the laser securrity system
m is designeed to deplooy wirelesssly, and
therefore, removing
r anny data cablle except thoose for pow
wering up. The
T laser traansmitter
emits the laaser line andd is pointed
d directly to the receiveer as in that figure. If thhe line is
not broken,, the green LED
L will co
ontinue to pilot.

m is activatted. The
green LED will turn off.
o And thee buzzer is on
o for a preedeterminedd period of time.
t At
me, the notiification aboout the interrrupt is also
the same tim o sent to useer via appliccation.

4.1.3. Testss and Resultts on Fire Detection

D annd Extinguisshing System
m
Thee fire detectiion system uses the MQ-2 gas sennsor, which when workking, the
w turn on. If the gas sensor
red LED will s deteccts any toxicc or combusstible gasess such as
methane, butane, LPG
G and smokee, the Buzzer will turnn on. And thhen, the greeen LED
will pilot th
hat the fire is
i in potentiial.

When fire is deetected, thee notificatioon webpage will be chaanged to thee one as
shown in Figure 4.7. This

Thee notificatioon of fire allert is also sent to thee user via thhe applicatiion. The
whole systeem is then cut off pow
wer supply to prevent electrical shocks
s and hazards
except for the fire exttinguishing system. Thhe pump drraws the water from thhe main
tank and exxtinguish thhe fire. Afteer the fire iss brought unnder contro
ol, the pumpp system
stops workiing.

4.2. Tests and

a Resultss for Local Monitorin
ng and Com
mpensation Sections
In field

m system, th
hree main parts
p are
included; ventilation
v s
system, garddening systtem and waater pump control
c systeem. The
parameters to be monittored over these

and secondd column of the display.
In water
w pumpiing system,, ultrasonic sensor is ussed to detecct the waterr level in
the main taank. The detected
d watter level inn percentagee is shownn in third roow, first
column of the

water levell is reachedd, the pump stops workking. The sttatus of thee pump is shhown in
the third row, the seconnd column of the displlay as shown
n in Figure 4.8.
In automatic

watering ystem, soil moisture sensor is ussed to measure the
sy
moisture coontent of thhe soil. Twoo moisture sensors

sensors are averaged too determinee whether thhe plants arre needed too be wateredd or not.
