Teachers: Students’ Real Life Heroes

Some of the heroes we've known possesses super powers, wears beautiful costumes, have the ability of saving
the world from evil people, and most of all wears capes, their trademark. These animated superheroes are
presently idolized by people especially kids, unfortunately they are just fictional characters, a nonexistent.
However, we have actually seen already a hero, a real life hero. They are neither animated nor imaginative; they
are real people. We’ve already talked to them, laughed with them and are friends with them. Just like the
animated superheroes, they also have the ability to save the world from being rough, dismal and ignorant by just
using their undefeated powers— their knowledge. Even though they do not wear capes, they are heroes, they are
heroes of all. Even if they do not have special powers, they can make a dream come true, even if they do not
have the ability to fly, their teaching could travel miles and miles away and could even reach the other side of
the world; changing impressively the lives of the people living in a different places. They are our great heroes in
this world – they are “TEACHERS”

Being a teacher doesn't make you rich like doctors or engineers, it doesn't make you popular like the celebrities
we saw on TV, people always say, but at the end of the day we can't ignore the fact that these teachers whom
they said are poor, creates and molds the future leaders of our countries, they create doctors, they create
engineers, they create the future. Teachers are the root of all professions. Poor? No. Teaching is not all about the
salary, it's all about passion.

A teacher’s effort and patience could not be equaled nor be compared by anyone. No one could really describe a
teacher’s sacrifice just to bright up the paths for others, sometimes forgetting their own family just to help their
students. A teacher is like every students’ angel, they are willing to guide us, in the paths we are going to take.
Regardless of the difficulties that may block our ways and problem that may hinder us from our dreams, and
even if we stumble and fall, our teacher is always there to help us up just so we could make our dream come true,
we could achieve our ambitions in life.

Teachers are God-sent, an exceptional gifts from God: wonderfully wrapped with love, kindness, and patience.
They are playing an important role in our daily lives, they are our second parents after all. Even if not blood type
related, they are willing to help us in making the person we wanted to be and help us in building a good future.
Without them, we could not get understand the real purpose of education – that is to turn mirrors into windows.

In our school years, we are meeting exceptional and valuable teachers. All of them are contributing different
approaches to develop us as a student and as a person. They are helping us in molding our image, developing our
character and making the ‘us’ in the future. They don’t only taught us Science or Math, they taught us life, and
they taught us the real purpose of life.

Teachers are vigorous. They never stop encouraging and inspiring us to be more hardworking, reliable and
persistent in all of our endeavors in school and at home. During hard times, they are there to be part of it and help
us to overcome our troubles. In times of success and failures, they are there beside us to lean on.

In return, we will never forget the teachers who made big part in making the person we wanted to be and we will
be always thankful for the rest of our life. Words are not enough to give thanks to our teachers, our real life
heroes in this world. And from the deepest bottom of our heart, we salute them, they will always and forever be
our teachers, our superheroes.
The New Face of Poverty

Farming is not just a job, it’s a way of life! Famers are not just people they are heroes. May it rain or shine, they
work in the fields from before dawn until long after dark to get the fields prepared, just so they could harvest
fruitfully and for us to be able to eat daily. Sadly, many people can’t appreciate the life of a farmer, instead of
appreciating, they are degrading them, worse is, mistreating them.

Farmers lead a life of significance and purpose, the work of farmers is necessary for human survival. Farmers are
highly motivated and capable, multi-talented individuals who balance their chores from the field to their homes.
They should be respected as professionals whose work is highly significant.

Anyone can farm – not everyone can be a farmer. Most farmers are driven by their need for their family and
eagerness to be successful. It is their love for their family which gives farmers the strength to stand up and start
again after a time of failure or disappointment.

Patience is a virtue, farmers always say. Patience is necessary in farming because a farmer’s reward comes
slowly. Possibly the most essential characteristic of a farmer is having a never-give-up attitude. There is no
quick return or instant reward in farming, even, sowing and harvesting are long processes. Patience, perseverance
and passion make it possible to push through the challenges and failures.

In a world where food insecurity levels are steadily increasing and with a country that faces challenges with
growing population, climate change, and of course the insensitive laws of our country, who would have the guts
to become a farmer? Who would? If the expenses in planting is much greater than the amount of selling?

Rice tariffication law supposedly ensures food security by liberalizing rice imports and making farming globally
competitive. However, Filipino farmers see it as a threat to their livelihood. Rice tarrification law is not helpful at
all, it has an immense devastating effects on the Filipino famers. It is not helping our local famers, instead, it
scourges their livelihood and creating a great fall on our country’s agricultural sector. Upon its affirmation,
farmers were drag to greater struggle. It only fills the pocket of those who benefit from it and drains the life of
those who toil and till. This law was never designed to uplift the lives of the farmers contrary to what the
government says. It was mainly designed to tame inflation and the restless public at the expense of the poor
farmers.

There’s a lot of family of poor farmers who farm just for their children to graduate and become their hope. Their
life has always been and will always be a struggle due to this rice tarrification law. Now that the competition
goes international, the farmers don’t stand a chance against deep-pocketed importers.

The farmer’s eyes of excitement were gone now, it was turned into worry… worrying that the selling of harvest
is at a loss. Who wouldn’t right? Who would like it knowing that their fruit of labor became a stone of labor?
They sacrificed a lot for their farms and that would be the exchange of the government? Isn’t it unfair? As a
result of this law, a new face of poverty had risen up, the farmers are the ones feeding the nation but they can’t
even feed themselves and instead to debate about this issue the government chose to focus on less relevant
issues, making the already hard life of a farmer, harder.

People of the Philippines are keep on hoping and still hoping that our government officials who serve its people,
hear the cries of despair and suffering from the ones to whom it serves, wake up from their sleep and look upon
for the people of the country. May they give the farmers what they deserve. May this new face of poverty be the
reason of equality among every people. To farm is hard, but to become a farmer is harder. Let’s bow down our
heads to those people who keeps on feeding us despite of the hard works. WE SALUTE YOU OUR DEAR
FARMERS!

Opposition despite the Same Situation

Philippines is an LGBT-friendly country. LGBT people are known for being talented, artist like Vice Ganda,
politician like Geraldine Roman, and of course in fashion, like Joel Marquez. We accepted them in our
community giving them equal rights just like us, Rep. Geraldine Roman of Bataan is the proof of such
acceptance. But despite of the acceptance of the Philippines in the said community, there are people who
are asking for more. Is it really for equality or for specialty?

“Bakit girls at boys lang? Asan ang equality?” a line of a transwoman, Gretchen Diez who experienced
“discrimination”. We often see this quotation in the memes in social media, we can’t deny that Filipino are
really humorous, using this meme to entertain people and to disseminate information. At first it made a
good impression to the people, making them support the LGBT community but as the time passed by the
request became a desperate call. LGBT in games, LGBT CRs, even LGBT marriage.

Despite the repeated requests of the LGBTQ community in Congress to pass the Sexual Orientation and
Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE) bill due to the experience of trans-woman Gretchen Diez, not all of
those who identify to be among its members have the same sentiment.

Despite the same position many LGBT members opposed the bill, Ryan Borja Capitulo, a gay and a
gynecologist, shared his views on this bill, he argued that the bill are not necessary due to the existing laws
that safe guard the rights of citizens against discrimination, he also cited the two versions of the bill in the
legislature- house bill 4982 or the “SOGIE bill equality act” and Senate bill 935 or the “Anti-Discrimination
Act”
We accepted them, giving them our support. When they raised their flag beside the Philippine flag it was
tolerated. We didn’t expect that being tolerated are making them want for more. Same sex marriage?
Even the famous fashion designer, Joey Marquez opposed this idea, being contented in spite of the idea
that he is influential and can change the opinion of others. It is not equality, it’s over equality.
