Poverty has been an ongoing problem that many global leaders have been working hard

on to continue its decrease in rates or, better, eliminate it in all parts of different countries. But as
we can see, there is little to no effect from these efforts, and poverty is still a major problem,
especially in third world countries. There may be states or regions that can be as competitive as
others, they can be technologically advanced, civilized, and part of the trading in the competitive
market, but this leaves out the other places wherein they get fewer wages and salaries, their
technology isn’t as advance, stores that offer necessities are far away from them, transportation is
limited only to those who can afford it, and so many other problems that they experience. They
can’t complain because their voices aren’t as hard and aren’t given the appropriate value. They
are now stuck to dealing with these situations which compared to other citizens from a different
city, don’t want it to happen to them. If we aren’t allowing ourselves to go through these
hardships, then why are we letting others go through this every single day.

An example of this is the family in the documentary given. A group of people

interviewed a family of 5 where the children are 6 years old, 3 years old, and a baby that is 4
months old. The father doesn’t have a stable job, and if he finds a sideline, the salary is only 150
pesos to 200 pesos which isn’t enough to provide what the family needs in a week or even a
month. They have no other choice but to eat anything available which most of the time, is instant
noodles. Sometimes, they are given a few ducks as the father’s compensation for working. The
two (2) older children have to sacrifice a bit for the milk of their baby sibling. In today’s time,
this much money won’t be enough to survive a couple of days which means they most probably
slept hungry or had to endure hunger for long periods. Seeing how they have managed to
survive under these kinds of conditions is not something we should be proud of.

At the end of the video, they were given by the group different necessities like food,
personal hygiene, and 4 sacks of rice. This may not be enough to others but to them, this was
already so much and they aren’t going to think about whether they are going to eat later or not.
This kind of experience may also be experienced in Cuba for they are being the victims of a first-
world country which is the United States of America wherein they are forced to create their
vaccines against covid for the U.S.A. imposes economic embargo against them. This may be a
violation of international law but because of the power the U.S.A. has, then they have no other
choice but to adapt to the situations. Poverty is also caused by inequality. People are being
robbed of opportunities to work, to be educated, and have the same technology as others all
because they are far away from civilization which forces them to leave their homes and go to a
congested city to find work and help their families. Money can’t solve everything and what we
need are people who are willing to extend their efforts and never forget that a country isn’t only
composed of a few cities.
