1. WHAT IS POVERTY?

Poverty is about lacking money to provide the basic needs such as food, shelter
and clothing. It can also include lack of education and recreational activities.
2. WHAT ARE THE FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO POVERTY?
There are five big factors that contribute to poverty.
Ignorance this factor is about the people who have knowledge to end poverty,
but dont want to share or too lazy to share what they know with the poor.
Diseases some diseases are really expensive to be cured, and some requires
maintenance that would cost a fortune. If you dont want to die or want to prolong
your life for even a few years, you have to follow whatever the doctor says.
Apathy this is when people dont care about changing what is wrong, improving
the current condition, and fixing problems.
Dishonesty this is actually very rampant in our country. The government allots a
certain budget for the poor, but only a few percent is distributed for them.
Corruption deprives the poor of what is truly theirs.
Dependency most of the poor are dependent on what the government or
volunteers give them. When the state cant give them what they want, they get
angry even if they can work for their food. A lot of people from the poor can still
work, but they choose to depend on the kindness of the people around them.
3. WHO ARE THE POOR?
The poor are those who are below the poverty line, those who cant provide their
basic needs, let alone their wants. There are a lot of other kinds of poor, but the
most common are the disadvantaged.
4. AS A CSB STUDENT, HOW ARE YOU AFFECTED BY POVERTY?
I see a lot of poor families on my way to school. They are dirty, homeless, and
hungry and most of them are sad. They ask for alms whenever I walk past them
but I cant give them any because I only bring what I need for the day. As much
as I want to help them, there are always problems whenever I try to. NSTP helps
us to be able to help them by teaching them, giving them food and etc.
