Summative Assessment 1

When we talk about indolence, we are referring to Filipinos' sloth. We are all aware that many
Filipinos are now sluggish in our culture. However, the majority of them are diligent individuals.
And, in my perspective, Filipinos are not lazy since we are an industrious and self-sufficient
people. And others of us are working in foreign countries only to provide for our families' basic
requirements, such as clothing, shelter, and food. Filipinos are not totally indolence when it
comes to their needs for a living, but because of some problems like lack of job opportunity in
the country, they don’t have a chance to get their proper job especially for the Filipinos who did
not finish their education (Mendoza , 2021). As a result, many Filipinos worked hard merely to
provide a good living and education for their children. However, some people are sluggish in
achieving their goals and lack self-determination. As a result, many Filipinos who are too lazy to
just obey the laws and regulations in our society would benefit from this. Such as appropriate
rubbish disposal and traffic rules. This suggests that we tend to be autonomous, or lazy, as a
result of these basic instructions. Because of the country's poor economy, Filipinos might be
indolent at times.

Poor economy is the main problem of the country that too many Filipinos were poor because of
lack of job opportunity, poor education system, and also corruption in the country is the cause of
this tragedy. The Philippines are experiencing a poverty not because Filipinos are lazy, it is just
that poor people don’t have an opportunity to rise from adversity because of some government
rules and laws are not favorable for them especially for the farmers and contractual workers
(Polo, 2021). In this country, we can say that Filipinos are indolence because they are too
indolent to solve their own problems. That is why many of us were led to engage in harmful
behaviors such as abduction, drug addiction, teenage pregnancy, and not pursuing education in
order to fit in and become part of a circle. Not standing up to negative influences is truly the
most terrible thing that a Filipino would face.

However, one thing we must be proud of as a Filipino is that they are friendly to other people
and also work hard in the heat of the sun, such as farmers. Farmers is the most important back
line worker of the Philippines because We are nothing without them since we don't have
anything to eat. As a child of a farmer, it is hard to make a living at this time because of the law
that passed by the government which is the Rice Tariffication Law, farmers faced a big slap to
the value of own rice product because of foreign rice are now regularly importing in our country.
My family are now being indolent to continue farming our rice farm because it is not profitable
anymore and they just want to sell the land just to make a new business. It is the evidence of the
indolence of the Filipinos is because of the government fault to give hope to the Filipinos to get
them out of the poverty and help them to resolve their problems in terms of living. Overseas
Filipino Workers, or OFWs, are also forced to leave their families and face the repercussions of
their actions in another nation. Even if there are others who are raped by their employees since
we are nothing more than a poorly educated person to them. Some people remain unaffected by
how outsiders handled Filipinos. They are certain that they are nothing without Filipinos; they
rely on us since Filipinos are hardworking, and most of them don't know how to support
themselves. The Filipinos are so independent in terms of living but government are doing some
struggle to the workers we had.

As a student, I experience of being indolent to finish my education because of high expense and
for me it is not worth it to pay high tuition fee for this education system. It is the same with my
family’s experience in continuing our farm because of high expenses and not profitable.
Sometimes, I thought of helping my family instead of paying high tuition fee with poor
education system of our country, but I am also thinking that we should make our own
opportunity to overcome that being indolence with finishing our education and achieve our goals.
It is better to finish the education for the Filipinos to take care of our life from poverty and
indolence. Education is our privilege to defend our rights to the government’s power and also to
make a voice that government should choose their people before their own interest. We should
make our own privilege and opportunity from the education because it is our weapon to change
the government’s system by having a voice of an educated Filipinos because it will help our
Filipino workers that are called as indolence or lazy people. We can defend the rights of every
Filipinos and give them opportunity to get them out of poverty and life of indolence.
