1.0 INTRODUCTION
As we conclude the end of the Port Vila Futsal League (PVFL) 2019 - 2020 season, we take a look back on the road
Aims FC had walked on from September 2019 to August 2020.
This report will outline the profile of the club, the highlights of 2019 - 2020 season, the financial report and the
challenges faced throughout the season. It was a challenging one since the club return from Association Mundial
de Futsal (AMF) to Port Vila Futsal League (PVFL) on the 22nd of March 2019 yet the futsal club remained steadfast
and strive forward to achieve our season targets.
Aims Futsal club is an active futsal team affiliated under one of the elite most competitive futsal league in Port-Vila
known as Port-Vila Futsal League (PVFL). It is essentially a community club made of youths in Malapoa Estate Area
with supporting members from around Port Vila. The Club has been established since 2007/2008 by Late Glen
Dassonville (former Manager of Vila Distribution Co.) as the major sponsor and manager of the club with the club
name; Lakamoli Futsal Club. The Late Mr. Glen Dassonville started the club to occupy the youths at Malapoa
Estate from involving in alcohol and drugs. The club started playing non-league games in 1-day tournaments
around Port Vila until it was registered to the PVFL in 2007/2008 season. It only took a few seasons for the club to
be promoted from 2nd Division to 1st Division and then to the Premier Division. The club continued competing in
the Premier Division of the PVFL but struggle to secure the championship.
In addition, Late Mr. Glen Dassonville started Lakamoli Netball for girls and an under 15 Lakamoli Futsal team.
During that time, Late Mr. Glen Dassonville was also the President of the Port Vila Futsal League and created the
U15 Futsal League that Lakamoli FC recruited players that are still playing for Aims Premier team today. In 2011,
the club was saddened by the passing of Late Mr. Glen Dassonville that impacted the club and the youths of
Malapoa Estate greatly. However, as of 2012, the club changes its official name to AIMS Futsal Club under Mr.
Baddley Tarrymataniki management. In Mid-2014, club Management shifts to current club president Mr. Sam Lui,
who was appointed voluntary by the youths in the community and he has kept committed to the club’s
development till present.

Our vision – Aims FC will be Vanuatu’s preeminent futsal club developing players around Malapoa Estate and Port
Vila.
Our mission - Aims Futsal Club is an independently-operated, not-for-profit sports organization affiliated with the
Port Vila Futsal League under the Vanuatu Football Federations providing training and competitive programs for all
athletes; inspiring to develop technically in futsal.
Our Values - Increase participation of individuals in the surrounding community through affordable and attainable
development programs for all athletes.
Strive to develop and maintain our coaches through coaching courses run by Oceania Football Confederations
(OFC) in turn producing a highly qualified coaching pool.
Committed to developing the growth of futsal locally, provincially and nationally by working with clubs, area
councils at the grassroots and senior level by offering tours and competition.
Empower leaders and volunteers within the community to participate in the growth of futsal.
3
Promote RESPECT, HONESTY, INTEGRITY and PROFESSIONALISM amongst our athletes making a full contribution to
maintaining a positive image for youth sports in Vanuatu and internationally.
Developing all aspects of futsal through its various components: tactical, technical and psychological throughout
our development programs.
The club was previously managed alone by Aims FC very own President Mr. Sam Lui. However, since Mr. Lui also
took on the role of managing one of the biggest football club in Vanuatu, Tafea FC, the need to have an executive
to support our President is crucial. Hence, the President agreed to set up the club’s executive management team
and the strengthening of management has led to more sponsorship to the club by letter of requests and planning
of the club’s funding, training and developments. Some of the immediate achievements of the executive team
includes having a vision for Aims FC, producing Aims FC reports, and drafted Aims FC bylaw.
The club’s objective was to challenge for the championship and book a spot for the OFC O’league which saw its
first edition last year 2019 where D’York Street FC qualified and represented Vanuatu. Thus, season 2019 – 2020
will go down in the history books as the first time ever Aims FC are crowned as the Port Vila Futsal League
champions in the Premier Divisions. The season kicks off late August but due to PVFL lack of venue, the games
were postponed till 23rd November 2019. Since the start of the season, the club lost some key players; Mike Tuan
& Misel Nikilau went back to their home islands and Junior Nirua & Bernard Isaac went to Fiji for tertiary studies.
As a result, the club needed to strengthen the squad and the management team managed to recruit some star
players in Vanuatu Futsal; namely Don Mansale and Morrison Lui. They were huge influence in the team securing
the title. There were 8 teams registered in the PVFL Premier Division. See final league standings tabulated.

Aims FC also took part in the YUMI 40 Independence Cup tournament and were runners up after a thrilling game
with PVFL soon to be new comers Mauri FC. In addition, during the teams first game in the Independence Cup
against Mauri FC, the team unfortunately lost Dimitri William, one of our key players to a serious injury which saw
his ankle broken. Nonetheless, the boys in red-black progressed into the grand finals of the tournament.

Another highlight of season 2019 - 2020 was the introduction of the First Division. The objective behind the
initiative was to have a backup for the Premier in the long term. The management agreed and registered the first
division with youths around Malapoa Estate, most in high schools, and other interested youths. As a result, it
attracts more young boys to attend training and play futsal. The PVFL first division season 2019 – 2020 composed
of four teams and although the young boys came last, there were a lot of improvement and experiences gained as
most of these players were new to the futsal game. Moreover, the first division also participated in the YUMI 40
Independence Cup and lost in the quarter finals.

5.0 CHALLENGES
The lack of training facilities is a common problem not only in futsal but other sports discipline as well in Vanuatu.
But Aims FC have a vision to be Vanuatu’s preeminent futsal club and will be working hard to materialize its values
by having its own proper futsal training grounds at Kawenu field that will not only benefit the club but other
surrounding communities.
Another challenge the club endured was the COVID-19 pandemic that impacted the world. As a result, all VFF
affiliated leagues were closed including the Port Vila Futsal League (PVFL). In addition, when Vanuatu went
through the initial State of Emergency (SOE) that saw most curfews enforced, the club cancelled all trainings to
comply. Then after the SOE lapse, the management decided to resume training after 3 weeks. The club continued
training but observed hygiene procedures, until the PVFL decided to resume schedule on the 1st of July 2020.
Our community (Malapoa Estate) is growing with more youths each year and since Aims futsal club is a community
club, management team seek to involve more youths in our activity of futsal. The idea is to create under 10’s and
under 15’s to develop young children and as they grow older, they will also grow tactically, technically and
psychologically.
13
6.2 ORGANISE NATIONAL & REGIONAL TOURS
As PVFL champions, Aims FC will play top 4 tournament qualifier for O’league. Additionally, as part of our vision,
we want to expose our players nationally and regionally to contribute in the growth of futsal in Vanuatu. As a
result, few tours will be planned and carried out in the season 2020 – 2021 if COVID-19 restrictions declines.
