“Challenging yet rewarding”, are the words I would use to describe the Computing majors
that comprise Power System and its Automation. To be pursued in a rapidly growing society
such as China at a prestigious University, as Hebei University of Technology, there is no
better place to begin a career in Power System and its Automation that encompasses state of
the art lab facilities that have been recognised internationally and is well acclaimed for
advances in Technological research and development.

My interests in Power System and its Automation have been drawn mainly from curiosity
that has evidently lead me in pursuit of knowledge in the study area as well as the zeal to
develop a career in it. One may ask; “why Power System, yet alone Automation? “.
The need for responsive Automation and efficient Power System has overshadowed
technological advances in both developing and developed countries, rapidly inducing
responses to major flaws in design and implementations of power system and automation
infrastructure that often left backdoors to potential power system threats. In addition, the need
for portability in power system and its automation is increasing year after year, as may be
seen with the advent of collection of devices that monitor, control and protect the power
system.

The applications of Power System and its Automation are widely vast, underlying
applications in industries, cellular communications, business and enterprise communications
and so on. Areas that encompass the need for Networks and Security. have intrigued me to
pursue the major that will bring all three elements into one. It is evident, that advancements in
Artificial Intelligence, processing speeds and Automation are potentially inducing
advancements in Ubiquitous Automation which also encompasses Power System
Engineering.

My background in the aforementioned fields may be attributed to the undergraduate degree I

am pursing, having taken courses in Power System Analysis and Automations in previous
semesters; I believe they have given me insight into the field of Power System & its
Automation and its vast applications, as is evident that applications are endless and is widely
considered as the most applied field of Electrical Engineering.

Having equally taken courses in Industrial & Automation control and power system analysis
with Matlab and other languages, I have seen the importance of security implementations in
design and infrastructures to ensure integrity, confidentiality of user devices and protection.
Without well-structured security implementations in applications and systems, the remains a
growing threat to the incorrect use of the application and also to proprietary Machines both in
Automation applications and systems designed for use in Industrial. My undergraduate
degree program in electrical engineering has opened me up to various fields in Electrical
Engineering that I feel have cantered around development and communications.
Having cited the aforementioned, my short term goals lie in obtaining a Master’s degree in
Power System and Automation to better solidify my interests in Power System and
Automation, this in itself puts me in a better position to effectively contribute to my home
countries development and continued efforts to advance in the area of Power System and its
Automation. My home country Zambia is still a developing country lacking professionals
with adequate exposure in the fields mentioned earlier.

In addition, power system being a core of most developed countries has fostered
technological advancements that often improve livelihood of the masses; improve business
logic, and facilitate easier transactions in schools and organisations alike. One may note there
still organisations to date which have not migrated to technological driven information
management systems and remain trapped in paper documentation that are prone to dangers
such as fires or being easily misplaced. Thus the need for professionals cannot be over
emphasized much further.

As for my future plans, I am not limited to any country as a final destination; to pursue a
PhD in Power System and Automation is my core interest as I look forward to one day being
placed in a Teaching or Research position at a University. Furthermore, to gain expertise in
the fields is a prime desire, as well as to be able to pass acquired knowledge to others in
future whether it be in research or Power System and Automation. If it will possible, I am not
keen on turning down any possible job placements with companies in China, as this could
highly advance me in my career.

To top the icing on the cake, one may ask; “Why Hebei University of Technology?” A simple
response would be “why not?” Not only does Hebei University house several key disciplines
but equally continues as one of China’s leading universities as well as acclaiming
international recognition for its pursue for better educational standards and merits in research
over the years. Hebei University motto “Diligence, Prudence, Devotion and Loyalty” puts it
plain and beautifully as may be seen in the varied achievement the university has amassed
over the decades since establishment. As noted, my interests in Power System and
Automation under the discipline of Electrical Engineering and Technology have been
enlightened by Hebei University of Technology pursuit for quality education and the wish to
maintain a standard.

Hebei University of Technology provides a grand opportunity to do research as it is well

funded for research in various areas and houses outstanding labs for research, having received
varied awards in power system and automation for research as well as papers, Hebei
University continues to be a trendsetters among Chinese Universities. Hebei University offers
the unique discipline of Electrical Engineering and Technology with encompasses varied
aspects in Power System and Automation; this alone convinces me it’s the best place to
pursue a Degree in the later.

In conclusion, the rewards of pursing a degree (Masters) at Hebei University of Technology

are too evident in its achievements over the years and the benefits of learning Chinese culture
remain illuminated by the countries rapidly growing economy and society. It remains my core
belief that to be awarded an opportunity to study at Hebei University of Technology will be a
grand opportunity to carry out practical research in power system and automation, explore
and learn to foster development both to my country and the Chinese folk at large.
