Welcome to Mrs.

Starkes Class

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am excited about working with your child this year. I am so delighted to have all the 5 th graders
ready to take on all of the advantageous exciting pathways of 5th grade. My name is Mrs.
Elizabeth Starkes and I am your child’s fifth grade teacher.
We will begin our first week off with a roar. I have established our homework program which
will be weekly. I will send a weekly newsletter home with the daily assignments on the back for
the week. Your child will record their homework in the Spiral notebook. We will have our first
Spelling Quiz on next Friday. It is especially important for you to help your child make
homework a priority in your household. Homework gives your child the opportunity to practice
what they have learned in the classroom.
Please make sure that you have checked your child’s daily folder. They will always have a
reading assignment every day. Homework completion is an important part of the school day.
Your child should have an appropriate place ( well lit, quiet desk or table ) to do their work at
home . Homework becomes more difficult each year your child is in school. Your child should be
able to do the homework in less that 30 minutes. If it is taking longer, please let me know.
Developing good study habits now will help your child achieve greater success in the future.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year! Let’s All Get WILD
About Learning!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Elizabeth Starkes
