I. Concept note
The sacraments of confirmation strengthens us in our Christian life.
1. How is it given? The sacrament of confirmation is conferred by:
 Anointing with Holy Chrism on the forehead
 While imposing the hands and by these words: (“Name”) be sealed with gift of the Holy
Spirit
2. Who administers this Sacraments?
The ordinary minister is the Bishop who is successor of the Apostles, with the
fullness of the sacraments of Holy Orders.
3. What are the gestures, meaning and effects of Sacrament?
3.1 The Bishop’s administering demonstrates the effect of confirmed:
 To unite the confirmed more closely
 To the church,
 To her apostolic origin, and
 To her missions of bearing witness to Christ
3.2 Anointing with Holy Chrism is a sign of abundance joy.
3.3 The post-baptismal anointing of sacred chrism is the sign of consecration.
3.4 Christ has put His seal on us and given us His Spirit in our hearts as a
guarantee. This seal of the Holy Spirit marks our total belonging to Christ.
3.5 Thus with the anointing with Chrism during confirmation,

 The Christian is empowered and further strengthened to share more fully in the
mission of Christ:
 To worship God, Priestly
 To loving serve others and kingly
 To witness to his faith prophetic
3.6 The Bishop’s gesture and greeting of peace has come to express the same
message:
 That the sacrament encourages the Christian to give more mature witness to God’s
saving love for everyone.
3.7 The sign of peace:
> Signifies and demonstrate ecclesial communion with the Bishop and with all the
faithful (CF CFC 1301).
