Very rarely do I feel that I have created a new plot in card magic that
is unique and baffling. This effect and presentation I feel is both...
Effect:
A spectator is shown a small bunch of cards and is asked to remember
one.
The cards are mixed and dropped to the ground by a spectator or
magician one at a time landing in a neat little pile... except for one.
One card takes off and flies towards the person that thought of a card!
The card is named, turned over and shown to be the one they thought
oft

will be doing this." Paul Harris

jot)THE CARD
You will need:
All you require is a deck of playing cards and your “special card”.
The “Special” Card:
You will be happy to know that this uses no threads, magnets, electronics etc.
You will actually make the gimmick card yourself and all you need are playing
cards, scissors and a glue stick!
make your special gimmick card:
tion 1 — Gimmick the Back of the Card
1. Simply cut out a piece of a playing card as shown in the diagram below
(shown with different colour to outline where to cut) (SEE FIGURE A).
2. Align the piece up with a card of matching color and glue with a glue stick
(shown with different colour to outline where to glue) (SEE FIGURE B)... let
it dry.
3. You're done!
Option 2 - Gimmick the Front of the Card
1, The above can also be done using the front of a card. See black outline as
to where to cut and glue (SEE FIGURE C & D). Face cards are best for this.
2. You're done!
This special card can be viewed closely and nothing can be seen due to the
perfect camouflage naturally built into the design. This card will be forced using
your favorite method,

This is one of my favorite forces and it feels right for this effect (**The origin of
the force as far as I know goes back to Annemann from “101 Methods of
Forcing.”):
STEP 1
Place the special card 7" from the top of the deck and you are all set.
STEP 2
Tell the spectator you're going to do an effect with only a few cards... ask them to
name a number between 5 and 10. You will force the 7” card on them by doing
the following:
If they say 6:
Deal off six cards and ask them to remember the next card (the force card).
If they say 7:
Perfect, deal to the 7" card and ask them to remember it.
FIGURE 1
If they say 8:
Push off 2 cards at a time without reversing their order,
dropping them to the table. You will see that when the 3°
set of two cards is on the table the last card is actually the
7” (SEE FIGURE 1).
If they say 9:
Push off 3 cards at a time dropping them to the table ~ stop
at the 3” set of 3, again the last card will actually be the 7”
card (SEE FIGURE 2).
STEP 3
After the selection has been noted deal as many cards more needed to make 10.
Mix them up and try to move the force card to the forth position (although it’s not
necessary, I feel this is the best place for it to be most theatrical). Keep the gaff
edge of the card toward the spectator.

Take the cards by the second finger and thumb of the FIGURE 3
right hand (See FIGURE 3) and let them drop one at a
time from at least chest height (this is best done inside
as the wind will blow the cards away). You will notice
that the cards will fall straight down, usually without
turning over. When you get to the 4" card (the force)
make sure the person is standing on the same side the [jul
gaff is on and make sure the gaff is pointing at them. Poearly
Amazingly the weight of the card will tilt and the card takes flight on an angle
right to them! Ask them what card they were thinking of and turn it over!
Tips/Notes
* You can allow the spectator to drop the cards using the gaff on the face of
the card. I pass them the cards one at a time.
* You can place a small pencil dot on the border to quickly spot the force
card, as the gimmick is so well hidden you may have a hard time seeing it
now. That's a good problem to have.
* Since the card is a force you may have a duplicate of it set at the 11th
position and swap them out to be more closely looked at.
+ Always check for heavily air-conditioned rooms.
+ Practice with friends or chairs etc. to get your angles perfect. This is very
easy to do.
* By using repositioning glue you may have a card selected and signed, and
steal off the gimmick.
+ Make a big deal about this when you are dropping the cards. Remember,
they do not know what to expect! When the card flies look and act
surprised!
* You can also split a card and glue the extra piece inside.

LIVING OR DEAD TES"
You can apply this principle to index cards with lines on one side to hide the gaff,
or with blank playing cards.
‘Ask someone to write the name of a celebrity that has passed i.e. Elvis, Marilyn
Monroe, etc., on the face of the gaff card and to write the names of 4 other
celebrities that are still alive on the 4 normal cards.
Mix the cards and talk about the ghost of the person that passed, ask for a sign
that they are watching and drop the cards one at a time... the gaff card flies
towards the person, ask them for the name then turn it over.
People I have done this for have said they felt a cool wind come up when the card
flew... that’s great by me.
DIVIDED
Gaff 26 cards and turn the red cards all one way and the black card the opposite.
Place these on 10 or fifteen regular cards and cut half the deck, making sure all
the cards you cut are gaffed.
Drop them one at a time and all the reds will fly to the left and the blacks to the
right. Turn them over to reveal the divide.
If you like, leave all the face cards normal so they will drop to the center. That
way you have a triple kicker.
This effect can be performed with the cards face up to suggest that the spectator
dropping the cards is doing it subconsciously.
Send me an email if you come with any original ideas with the Falling Principle

T hope you enjoy this self-working miracle as much as I have over the
years.... It was just too good to hang on to anymore!
