Sin Clair said a social moment is a combination of shared ideas and activities that are concerned
with changing the patterns of social life.
Social movements are large scale informal grouping of individual or organisations which have a
sharded interest focusing on social or political issues.
 
Various levels:
1. Individual 2. Organisational 3. Institutional
 
If resistance is more, there are large and strong social movements.
There is inevitable resistance to social change.
 
David Aberle categorised 4 types of social movements:
Two parameters-
1. How much change (Limited change or radical?)
2. Who changed it. (everyone or specific Individual/population)
 
L- Limited change
R- Radical change
S- Specific individual/ Specific population
E- Everyone
A- Alternate Social movement
Rd.- Redemptive Social movement (Tribal issue)
Rf.- Reformative Social movement (environment movement)
Rv. Revolutionary Social Movement
 

 
Actors:
1. Protagonist- Support the movement or who it claims to represent.
2. Antagonist- Who oppose the movement and organise counter movement.
3. Adherence- Activists but less involved members.
4. Conscience Adherence- Those who support a movement but are not beneficiaries of the
movement.
5. Bystanders- If they are not involved.
