1. Introduction

Poetry is a form of artistic expression and has been around


for almost four thousand years and it's express emotions,
share ideas and create imagery
There are so many different types of novels and many have
very few rules and it includes free verse, sonnets, acrostic
poems and haiku and there are over 50 different types of
poetry
The difference between each type is based on the format,
subject matter, scheme and rhyme.

2. Research objectives

1- Ballads
2- the narrative and epigram
3- the sonnet and epitaph
4- limerick and lyric
5- ode and Blank verse

3. Research

1) Ballads: ballada are songs that tell stories and based on


alegend or a folktale and have many changes over the years
and full of magic and it looks like a song
There are a form of narrative verse
They have along history in music and ballad can be a slow,
love song but it can also be light poem
Ballads had unrequited love, adventure, battle and revenge
and it have a refains which is a verses and repeated

choruses and the common ballad stanza is two or four lines


along with a rhyme scheme of AA BB
For example: in the poem Joseph compbell: the two Ravens
As I was walking all along
I heard two Ravens making a moan.
2) the narrative and epigram: 1- the narrative poems is
similar to an epic and it tell a story and the most important
thing in it is a plot may be important than other aspects and
the ballad is a type of narrative poem and it longer than the
ballad and it's theme feats of achievement which shape
traditions and the Greek wrote two long epic poem
For example the ravan by Edgar allanpoe
2- Epigram comprising a single thought or event which is
written a verse and it's used to describe a short poem and
apart of poem or a sentence from alonger piece of prose
For example: William Butter yeats "thespur".
3) the sonnet and epitaph: the sonnet is a form of poetry
which is organized in Italy and still written today and it's a
fourteen lines poems. The line are divided on eight_line
subsection called asestet
The rhyme scheme is ABBA ABBA and the octave presents a
problem, a dilemma and the sestet offers an answer or
solution
The subject of sonnet are usually serious: love or death
The sonnet underwent some changes and become very
popular which called Shakespearean sonnet and it consists
of three quarains and two lines in the end and the typical
rhyme scheme is ABAB CDCD EFEF
3) the sonnet and epitaph: the sonnet is a form of poetry

2- the epitaph is a brief poem and it is a short statement
about a deceased person inscribed on a tomb stone praising
a deceased person
For example: " quoth the revan " ' never more _ Edgar
allanpoe.
4) limerick and lyric: a limerick is a five_line poem that
consists of a single stanza, an AABBA rhyme scheme which
line one, two and five are of three feet and line three and
four are of two feet
Most limerick are comedic and it popularized by Edward
lear
Modern limerick use the final line for Clever witticisms and
word play
For example: an old man by Edward lear
2- lyric: lyric poetry refers to the broad category of poetry
that concerns feeling and emotions
Unlike narrative poetry which recounts events and tells a
story and it organized in ancient Greek literature and it

follows strict formal rules and in sixteen century William


Shakespeare popularized lyric poetry in England
For example: Italian sonnet by James Deford.
5) ode and Blank verse:1- ode is a short lyric poem that
praises an idea or an event but it's more complex than lyric
and it always written in a style
Marked by a rich, intense expression
There are different types of odes and the word ode comes
from the Greek word which mean to sing and it devided into
three sections
1- the strophe: it usually consists of two or more lines
2- the antistophe: the second section and it's structure the
Same way as the strophe
3- the epode: it has distinct meter and length from the
strophe and antistophe
For example: ode to the Confederate Dead by Allentate
2- blank verse: it's very old and Shakespeare wrote many of
his plays using it and there is no rhyme scheme and the
subject matter written in blank verse is fairly serious
For example: mending walls by Robert frost.

4. Conclusion

at the end we know that there are many types which is


different from each other and the difference between them
based on the format, scheme, rhyme and subject matter
We know that each type has some rules in it and poetry is a
form of artistic expression

From it we can share ideas, give morals, express emotions


and create imagery and today it's important part of art and
culture and convey thought.
