A Funicular Shell is a 3 dimensional catenary on a rectilinear
base. The roofing system consists of doubly curved shells
made with materials of good compressive strength such as waste stone pieces and brick tiles and supported on reinforced concrete edge beams. A series of these shells in variable geometric configurations supported on a grid of concrete beams, identical to a coffer slab, provides an attractive roof for small to medium spans.
Reinforced brick panel roofing system:
In this system, concrete is used in maximum compressive stress zone and bricks in less compressive stress zone. Reinforcement in Brick Panels is encased in cement concrete grade not leaner than M 20 or cement mortar 1:3 (1 cement: 3 course sand) with proper cover to avoid corrosion. The method of precast fabrication is adopted for making precast concrete joists and brick panels.
Precast concrete joists:
Partially precast concrete joists (M20) are designed to behave like T-beam along with the in-situ concrete (M20) laid over the panels and joists. The precast portion of the joists is designed to take self load and handling stresses only and therefore, it needs to be propped at two equidistant points before placing panels and laying concrete. Folded plates: Folded plates are assemblies of flat plates rigidly connected together along their edges in such a way that the structural system capable of carrying loads without the need for additional supporting beams along mutual edges.
Ribbed Slabs made of Ferro cement:
A new type of slab to be applied in semi-prefabricated construction. The slab is made of a thin 15mm fiat layer of ferrocement stiffened by a set of ribs. The aim is to develop a low cost slab wbich is easy to handle and erect.
RCC framed structure:
In an RCC framed structure, the load is transferred from a slab to the beams then to the columns and further to lower columns and finally to the foundation which in turn transfers it to the soil. The walls in such structures are constructed after the frame is ready.
