HCI PRACTICAL 2

Goal: Online shopping

E-commerce is the activity of buying or selling of products on online
services or over the Internet. Electronic commerce draws on technologies such as
electronic funds transfer, Internet marketing, online transaction processing,
electronic data interchange (EDI), and automated data collection systems.

E-commerce websites:
1. Amazon
o It is an E-commerce website selling a variety of products
supplied by a host of different sellers.
o The main drawback of this site that the home page appears to
be too clustered with all the products displayed in an
uncategorized manner.
2. Flipkart
o This website functions similar to Amazon.
o However, the GUI is different than Amazon.
o The products are categorized but the colour scheme is disliked
my many users.
3. Myntra
o This is an e-commerce website solely dedicated to apparels.
o The main user complaint is that the website is difficult to
navigate.
4. eBay
o This website has a unique selling point that anyone can sell
their product here.
o This creates a problem of finding a trusted seller.
5. Jabong
o It is an e-commerce website similar to Myntra.
o Although it offers a wider range of categories to choose from.
o The option to save products for later purchase is difficult to
find.

Heuristic evaluation:
A heuristic is a simple principle or “rule of thumb”. A heuristic
evaluation is one where an evaluator or group of evaluators walks
through the design of an interface and decides whether or not it
complies with these “rules of thumb”.

Advantages:
1. It’s fast, quick and cheap to conduct a heuristic evaluation. This is
especially true if you are only going to use a single evaluator.
2. It provides good insight into possible usability problems that
might damage the user experience.

Disadvantages:
1. A single evaluator may miss issues that are not readily apparent to
them. The use of more than evaluator is recommended.
2. Heuristic analysis is subjective. It does not “prove” anything and
thus findings may be open to debate.
3. Experience evaluators are hard to come by and that means that
you may need to use less skilled evaluators whose findings may
not be as valuable.
