Start By:

A. Remove the travel motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Travel Motor - Remove" in
this manual.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during


performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers

before opening any compartment or disassembling any component


containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service


Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Put identification marks on the travel motor and on all lines for installation purposes. Plug
all lines. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the
system.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the
component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.

1. Put an alignment mark across the section of the travel motor for assembly purposes. The
parts must be reinstalled in the original locations of the parts.

2. Remove plug (2) , plug (3) , plug (4) , and the O-ring seals.

3. Install Tooling (F) and (G) at opening (2a) . Use opening (3A) in order to remove wire (5) .

5. Remove wire (5) . through opening (3a) . Pull wire (5) and turn cover (1) in order to remove
the wire from the motor assembly.

Note: Turn the housing on one side in order to remove the barrel assembly as a unit.

Note: Mark the location of the pistons in the barrel for assembly purposes.

35. Remove pistons (47) , and retainer plate (48) as a unit from barrel (45) . Remove pistons
(47) from retainer plate (48) .

Note: When the plug is removed (131) steel balls will fall from the housing. Place a
receptacle under the housing in order to catch the steel balls.
