And all creation is shouting for Joy,
Come dance in the forest come play in the field
And sing, sing to the glory of the Lord

He carries the light of the Lord in his rays
The moon and the stars who light up the way
Unto your throne

The seas mighty storms the gentle breeze,
They blow where they will, they blow where they

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

3
First Reading: 1 Sm 3, 1-10 (Vietnamese)

A reading from the first book of Samuel

During the time young Samuel was minister to the Lord under
Eli, a revelation of the Lord was uncommon and vision
infrequent. One day Eli was Asleep in his usual place. His eyes
had lately grown so weak that he could not see. The lamp of
God was no yet extinguished, and Samuel was sleeping in the
temple of the Lord where the ark of God was. The Lord called
to Samuel, who answered, “Here I am.” He ran to Eli and said,
“Here I am. You called me.” “I did not call you,” Eli said. “Go
back to sleep.” So he went back to sleep. Again the Lord
called Samuel, who rose and went to Eli. “Here I am,” he said.
“You called me.” But he answered, “I did not call you, my
son. Go back to sleep.” At that time Samuel was not familiar
with the Lord, because the Lord had not revealed anything to
him as yet. The Lord called Samuel again, for the third time.
Getting up and going to Eli, he said, “Here I am. You called
me.” Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling the youth.
So he said to Samuel, “Go to sleep, and if you are called,
reply, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ ” When
Samuel went to sleep in his place, the Lord came and revealed
his presence, calling out as before, “Samuel, Samuel!” Samuel
answered, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

The Word of the Lord.

Response: Thanks be to God

Reponsorial Psalm (To be sung by the Choir)

(Verses: Myanmar)

R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

4
O God, you are my God whom I seek;
for you my flesh pines and my soul thirsts
like the earth, parched, lifeless and without water.

R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

Thus have I gazed toward you in the sanctuary

to see your power and your glory,
For your kindness is a greater good than life;
my lips shall glorify you.

R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

Thus will I bless you while I live;

lifting up my hands, I will call upon your name.
As with the riches of a banquet shall my soul be satisfied,
And with exultant lips my mouth shall praise you.

R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

That you are my help,

and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy.
My soul clings fast to you;
your hand upholds me.

R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

Second Reading: Rom 6, 3-11 (Sri Lankan)

A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Romans

We who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his
death. Through baptism into his death we were buried with

5
him, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the
glory of the Father, we too might live a new life. If we have
been united with him through likeness to his death, so shall we
be through a like resurrection. This we know: our old self was
crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed
and we might be slaves to sin no longer. A man who is dead
has been freed from sin. If we have died with Christ, we
believe that we are also to live with him. We know that Christ,
once raised from the dead, will never die again; death has no
more power over him. His death was death to sin, once for all;
his life is life for God. In the same way, you must consider
yourselves dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus.

The Word of the Lord.

Response: Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel: Mt 19, 16-26

Deacon: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to

Matthew

Response: Glory to you, O Lord.

A man came up to Jesus and said, “Teacher, what good must I

do to possess everlasting life?” He answered, “Why do you
question me about what is good? There is One who is good. If
you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” Which
ones?” he asked. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not kill’; ‘You
shall not commit adultery’; ‘You shall not steal’; ‘You shall
not bear false witness’; ‘Honor your father and your mother’;
‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” The young man said to
him, “I have kept all these; what do I need to do further?”

6
Jesus told him, “If you seek perfection, go, sell your
possessions, and give to the poor. You will then have treasure
in heaven. Afterward, come back and follow me.” Hearing this
words, the young man went away sad, for his possessions were
many.
Jesus said to his disciples: “I assure you, only with difficulty
will a rich man enter into the kingdom of God. I repeat what I
said: it is easier for a camel to pass to through a needle’s eye
than for a reach man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the
dicsciples heard this they were completely overwhelmed, and
exclaimed, “Then can who be saved?” Jesus Looked at them
and said, “For man it is impossible; but for God all things are
possible.”
