Used to evaluate what was significance about


selected events, people and developments in the
past.
Called the forgotten concept in history

A decision that modern people make about what is
important from our past.
Used to describe people, event places and dates from the
past that is particularly important.
Different people can decide that different things are
significant, they can disagree that a specific idea, person
svent or place is important.

THE PROCESS BY WHICH HISTORIANS GATHER EVIDENCE

Historical Evidences can have a variety of forms:


Primary resources (original documents, artifacts, other
peices of information under study) from letters written
by soldiers, to people related to him, government
documents, photographs

Secondary sources ( contain useful information, but


typically involve an analysis of primary source
material) ex. Magazines
Oral Tradition (consists of stories that are not written
down, but passed on verbally)

WHAT IS SIGNIFICANT?
There are various ways that people decide that
something is significant based on different sets of criteria
that historians' formulated.

Historical significance is typically assessed by judging


an event against pre-defined criteria.
