3. The number of graduates employed within six months of graduation against the
duration of industrial training are summarised as follows:

5. A town council plans to plant 12 trees along the centre of a main road. The council
buys the trees from a garden centre which has 4 different hibiscus trees, 6 different
angsana trees and 2 different yellow flame trees for sale.

(a) How many different arrangements of these 12 trees can be made if the hibiscus
trees have to be next to each other, the angsana trees have to be next to each other
and the yellow flame trees have to be next to each other?

(b) How many different arrangements of these 12 trees can be made if no hibiscus
tree is next to another hibiscus tree?

(c) How many different arrangements of these 12 trees can be made if the plantation
begins with an angsana tree and ends with a yellow flame tree?

6. (a) Three coins of respective diameters 1.5 cm, 2 cm and 2.5 cm are to be inserted into
a box. The box has four slots, whose diameters are 1.6 cm, 2.1 cm, 2.1 cm and 2.6 cm
respectively. Find the number of different ways one can insert the three coins into the
box if
(i) no slot can be used more than once.

(b) A group of 4 senior students and 2 junior students are to be selected from a group of 6

that

10. Rachel and Anna play each other at badminton. Each game results in either a win for
Rachel or a win for Anna. The probability of Rachel winning the first game is 0.6. If
Rachel wins a particular game, the probability of her winning the next game is 0.7, but if
she loses, the probability of her winning the next game is 0.4.
(a) Construct a probability tree diagram to represent the above information.
