PM strongly believes in freedom of expression: Shibli Faraz

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25 (APP):
Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly believed in freedom of expression, Minister for Information
and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz here on Tuesday said.
Freedom of the press and democracy were inseparable, he said talking to a delegation of Coun-
cil of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) which called on him.
Shibli Faraz said that there was no pressure or interference from the government in the media
and transparency and merit would be ensured in resolving media related issues.
He expressed the need to improve and strengthen the institutions and the system, and added
"We want to build a strong system that should be effective in the future as well."

He said he considered the best relations with the media as his most valuable asset.
Shibli said that due to the coronavirus pandemic, face-to-face meetings were reduced, but
now owing to the effective strategy of the government the situation had improved.
The minister said the process of meetings should continue so that issues could be discussed
and resolved.
The delegation briefed the minister in detail about the problems being faced by the media
industry.
The CPNE delegation consisted of President Arif Nizami, General Secretary Dr. Jabbar Khattak,
Sardar Khan Niazi, Irshad Arif, Ayaz Khan, Kazim Khan, Ejaz-ul-Haq, Anwar Sajidi, Tahir Farooq,
Hassan Abidi, Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Amir Mahmood, Hafiz Sanaullah, Yusuf Nizami and Amin
Haider.
Information Secretary Akbar Durrani and Principal Information Officer (PIO) Shaheera Shahid
were also present in the meeting.

In the month of August, PID continued dissemination of Information through its talented publicity
officers (PROs) attached with various Federal Ministries. In this regard, Central News Desk of PID issued
and reinforced a total 209 Press releases and 242 APP stories besides 206 Tickers and 336 Photographs.
PID Advertisement Department released print media ads worth Rs. 86.32 Million, which included
campaigns on Ehsaas Program, Covid-19 and Independence Day (14th August). It also issued electronic
media ads worth Rs.42.26 Million, especially on Covid-19 and Ravi River Front Project.
PID played a vital role in highlighting Kashmir Cause under the guidance of senior leadership of MOI&B.
In this regard PID organized walk on 5th August to mark the 1st anniversary of Indian unconstitutional
aggression in Indian Illegally Occupied jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) to annex it as one of its Union Territo-
ries.

giving highlights/details of the performance

On 13th August, 2020 Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications, Karachi and Press
Information Department, Karachi, celebrated the 74th Independence Day of Pakistan. The
event was marked by the launch of an official Independence Day song created by Directorate of
Electronic Media and Publications and a Virtual Exhibition of rare photographs of Quaid-i-Azam,
old equipment of film making, iconic letters, awards and certificates, was held in collaboration
with the State Bank of Pakistan Museum. The Event was held keeping in view all the SOP’s and
guidelines given by the Government in the Covid-19 pandemic.The Event was concluded with
a cake cutting ceremony by the Director In-Charge DEMP Karachi, Miss Irum Tanveer and PID
In-Charge Miss Raeesa Adil. The Virtual Exhibition held in collaboration with the State Bank of
Pakistan Museum by DEMP Karachi, proved to be a success as over 16,711 visitors attended the
exhibition virtually.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan’s information minister said
Wednesday he hoped that new bills passed in Parliament
aimed at curbing terror financing and money laundering
will lead to the country’s removal from an international
watch list. Shibli Faraz commented hours after the National
Assembly, the powerful lower house of Parliament, passed
bills to meet goals set by the Paris-based Financial Action
Task Force in February. The goals included targeting
individuals linked to money laundering and terror
financing. “Yes, I am quite sure about it,” Faraz said when
asked whether the new legislation will help the country get
off the task force’s gray list. Faraz said even lawmakers from
opposition parties voted on five new task force-related bills
in the national interest Wednesday.

through developing special social media campaigns.
During the month of August, Cyber Wing launched special campaigns to effectively highlight the important events
and projects started by the government for public welfare including. Special campaigns were run for Youm e Istehsal
on 5th August, Independence Day on 14th August, Plant for Pakistan Campaign and 2 Years Performance of the Govern-
ment. The important events during the August were closely monitored and all the relevant material (news, infograph-
ics, messages) was uploaded on website (www.moib.gov.pk), twitter (MoIB_Official), facebook (MoIB.Official) and
instagram (Moib.official). In August,the total number of news/infographics uploaded on website, twitter, facebook and
instagram were 84, 236, 169 and 53 respectively. The current followers of official pages are 473.5K.

YOUM-E-ISTEHSAL AUGUST 5TH 2020.

Currently Cyber Wing team has launched a comprehensive campaign regarding Youm e
Istehsal. Contents were prepared exclusively to highlight plight of Kashmiri people and dissemi-
nated through social media. The content from other departments of the Ministry were also
projected on official social media accounts.

The announcement of creation of Pakistan in English by Mr. Zahur Azhar and in Urdu by Mr. Mustafa Ali
Hamdani “Talu-e-Subh-e-Azadi.” was broadcast between the midnight of 13th and 14th August 1947 from
this very transmitter.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz said the Marconi

Radio Pakistan arranged special programmes from 26th July to 5th August to highlight the Kashmir issue
effectively.
The National Broadcaster released three special songs and three short documentaries on the occasion of
completion of one-year of military siege of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K).
The documentaries titled "Hindutva Dangerous than Pandemic” , “UN Permanent Membership for Rights
Abuser" and “Modi – Hitler of 21st Century” have been produced by a team of professionals of Radio
Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs Channel and Social Media under the auspices of Ministry of Information
and Broadcasting. The short documentaries are available on Radio Pakistan's website www.radio.gov.pk and
all social media platforms.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan, Chairman
Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, Mr. Shehryar Khan Afridi reiterated Pakistan's commitment to contin-
ue exposing the true face of Modi government at every international forum to highlight the plight of

The Kashmir coverage was part of a series including Youm-e-Istehsal Aug 5, Youm-e-Ilhaq Pakistan and Youm-e-Shuha-
da-e-Kashmir and an impressive 10, 836 news items in 7 languages, digital media feed and Youtube channel from May to
August, 2020 were released by the APP. These included special writeups, news stories, photographs, short videos, infographics
etc for wider dissemination, through all available resources.
The news coverage on Kashmir, Independence Day and Two-year Performance was in addition to the routine coverage of the
Parliament, Supreme Court, IHC, NCOC, NLCC and other ministries.
The APP through its digital media platforms not only shared live feed of important events including flag hoisting, President’s
address, Joint sitting of the Parliament, coverage of live rallies, events related to Independence Day celebrations, activities to
highlight Kashmir issue, new political map, BRT Peshawar, Sehat Insaf card, Tree Plantation, visit of President-elect of UNGA,
but also created exclusive infographics, SoPs for Covid19, short videos on various topics, attracting a positive feedback.
The APP Feature Service released special writeups on: Tourism, Billion Trees Afforestation Programme (BTAP), Independence
Day, Construction Industry and Buddhism, Digitalisation. All the features got wide coverage in different national dailies and
several websites. The news released by the Regional News Service also received prominent coverage including some
front-page lead stories.
The APP TV released around 80 messages of federal ministers, prominent personalities from all walks of life on Kashmir and
Independence Day.
The Training Directorate conducted four trainings; both at the office and through zoom, for the capacity building of its staff.

Salaam Pakistan – 14th August
Keeping up the tradition of celebrating
Independence Day in all its spirit and fervour,
PTV brought an extensive transmission on all
its channels. Daily countdown till the event,
National songs, Documentaries, specially
designed graphics campaign kept airing from
6th till 14th August including an on-screen
bug. Carrying the theme of ‘Salam Pakistan’
special promos, testimonials, reports and
segments telecasted to sensitize masses.
Pakistan Television Network telecasted live the
Official Flag-Hoisting Ceremony and produced
& televised several programs throughout the day.
Special episodes of ‘Kashmir Magazine’, ‘Sach Kay Saath’, ‘Aiwan Say Awam Tak’ and Barjasta’
were televised on 14th August. A special program on the Achievements of Females in Pakistan
was also televised. A special Mega Quiz Show ‘Pehchan Pakistan’ based on the Pakistan Move-
ment with the students’ participants representing all the provinces was telecasted on PTV News
and PTV Home. Special recorded show from Pakistan Monument was televised with anchors
Miss. Imtiaz Gul and Miss. Warda Shuja in which former ambassadors, social workers, politicians
from different parties and TV artists participated.
PTV WORLD also produced special programs on the Independence Day including
‘World This Morning’, ‘Salam Pakistan Desk Analysis’, ‘News Room’ and the ‘The Story of Freedom’.

While the nation stood in solidarity for the Kashmiri brethren marking one-year anniversary of India’s abroga-
tion of Article 370, PTV translated the sentiments of Pakistanis through our screens. Pakistan Television
Network aired a bug ‘Youm-e-Istehsal’ whole day and turned all its channel logos to black and white as a
gesture of solemnity for the Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
A marathon transmission was planned on PTV News and PTV World that began at 10 am and continued till
midnight on both channels. The sub-theme was about the Question of Kashmir
focused on the fact that Kashmir is more than an issue or a bilateral problem.
The live transmission ‘Sawal Kashmir Ka’ had senior anchors, analysts and experts sharing their views the
entire day. The transmission aired special documentaries ‘Zanjeer Bakaf Kashmir’ and ‘Kashmir Qabzay Say
Nasal Kushi Tak’, special programs ‘Kashmir Ki Awaz’ and ‘Duniya Ki Awaz’ produced covering international
perspective on Kashmir. Foreign analyst and Pakistani High Commissioner to UK participated in the program.
PTV News also produced an exclusive program ‘Dukh Kashmir Ka’ from refugee camp Muzaffarabad with
anchor Nadia Mirza in which showed stories of Kashmiris who migrated to Pakistan. The Great debate ‘Sawal
Kashmir Ka’ was participated by the federal ministers and leaders from different political parties. PTV news
also televised testimonials of around 40 parliamentarians including the President and Prime Minister of AJK
and Federal Ministers.
Like PTV News, PTV WORLD also produced special programs on ‘Youm-e-Istehsal’ that included talk shows,
documentaries and special programs.

Two Years Anniversary of the Government – 18th August

Upon completion of two years of the present Government, PTV News not only covered various activities and
pressers but also produced special spots, packages and reports throughout the day. PTV News also
produced an exclusive documentary ‘Kamyabi Ka Safar’ featuring flagship reform and welfare projects of the
government, including the effective handling of COVID-19 Pandemic by the Govt., Ehsaas Program, Reforms
in Housing Sector, Clean Green Pakistan and Govt’s initiatives on dams.
PTV News aired special packages, short reports and shows on the achievements of the Government.
Program ‘Badalti Raey’ covered Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme and Clean & Green Pakistan campaign,
program ‘Aiwan Se Awam Tak’ covered COVID 19, Ehsaas Program and Kamyab Jawan program and Program
‘Sach Ke Sath’ covered Shelter Homes, Diamir Bhasha and Mohmand Dam.
Similarly, PTV World also aired special news packages and reports on the Tree Plantation Campaign and
flagship development programs of the Government.
