1. Differentiate between a news release and a media advisory by detailing the function and
to which public/s each is targeted for. (10marks)

A news release is a written communication reporting specific but brief information regarding
an event or product launch and sent by a company to media so that it can be published or broadcast.
News release will be sent out to targeted members of the media. Media refers to publications such as
newspapers, magazines and electronic media such as television, radio and websites which are used to
convey news and information to the readers, viewers and internet users. The main function of news
release is to promote, notifies members of media regarding newsworthy event, company, etc. New
release also aimed to attract media attention to cover an event. News release should be attractive
elaborate and does not consist of errors and also include quotes from spokesperson. News release
should be written according to inverted pyramid contain info on 5W; Who, What, When, Where and
Why.
In contrast to a media advisory, it is an invitation or announcement to the reporters,
journalist and all forms of media to cover and attend an upcoming event. Media advisory also known
as media alert whereby it contains most important details regarding the event in a short brief and
straight to the point. Media advisory targeted public is the suitable members of media who will cover
the event or the information released during the event. Media advisory should include the 5W; What,
When, Where, Who, Why and also contain contact information for reporters to get more information.
Media advisory is not meant for public. The function of media advisory is to secure media coverage
in order to broadcast news regarding the event to the public via radio, television, print or online
media. It may provide with additional details on logistics or photo session.

What : Menteri Besar of Johor, Secretary of State Government Johor, Managing Director
of Medini Iskandar Malaysia, Acting Head of Medini Iskandar along with state
officials will help break ground on the new Digital Library Centre. The
groundbreaking ceremony will involve sand and shovels.

Who : The ceremony will be officiated by Menteri Besar of Johor, YAB Datuk Ir. Haji
Hasni Bin Haji Mohamad and official speeches by :
 Secretary of State Government Johor, YB Dato’ Haji Azmi Bin Rohani
 Managing Director of Medini Iskandar Malaysia, Dr. James Tee
 Acting Head of Medini Iskandar, En. Mohamad Zamani Razali

When : July 18th, 2020 (Saturday)

 Arrival : 9.30 am
 Speeches and photo session : 10 am to 12 pm
 Refreshments : 12 pm – 12.30 pm

Where : All media will gather at Medini 9, Kota Iskandar (in front of Hotel Zen).

Why : The existing public library was crowded with an increase of visitors from all over
Johor Bahru. The new digital library will provide the space needed to relieve the
current congestion.

GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY KICKS OFF CONSTRUCTION

For New Digital Library Centre

Iskandar Puteri : The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on July 18 th,2020 at Medini 9,
Iskandar Puteri, Johor to mark the beginning of construction of the new Digital Library
Centre. The ceremony will be officiated by Menteri Besar of Johor, YAB Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni
Bin Haji Mohamad. The new library is scheduled to be open in Mei 2022.

The RM2.5 million construction project of approximately 1,500 square feet will provide
spacious seating and study areas, technology equipment and computers, a wide variety of
outdoor study and leisure activities. It also will provide one 200-seat convention hall and
three 30-seat meeting rooms. The new digital library includes an extensive selection of
books and ebooks, children area, teen area and a work area with wi-fi.

“As the leading developer, we optimist with the presence of the digital concept public library
will contribute to the knowledge of students and publics all over Johor”, said managing
director of Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Dr. James Tee, in a statement. “Digital
facilities in this library will be a platform for the local community to gain global knowledge
effectively” he added.

This digital library will be the new landmark of Iskandar Puteri and Johor which will be benefit
the local community especially students in Johor Bahru area and already demand for
government meetings and business conventions.
