Postpartum care includes self-care and recognizes the possible complications prior to
discharge. Education of the new mother & family includes newborn care such as bathing,
umbilical cord care, circumcision, care seat safety, ect.

-hemorrhage -administer oxytocin to prevent hemorrhage

-hypoglycemia -education
-daily weight
-administer newborn medications: hep B,
erythromycin, vitamin K
-warm baby slowly 2-4 hrs
-clear secretions: mouth then nose
