Overcoming odds
Mass Communication graduate Teo Zi Lin epitomises the
can-do spirit of FMS. She turned her hearing disability into
an advantage by removing her hearing aids to focus better
while studying. It worked – she emerged valedictorian and top
graduate for the Class of 2015 and has received both job and
university offers. She received the Asia Pacific Breweries (APB)
Foundation Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities and is now
studying at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

FMS created a ‘real world environment’ for our learning.
We were grounded in theory, but had the benefit of learning
from industry veterans who were our lecturers. And our
project work was either measured against industry norms
and standards, or done in collaboration with real, operating
media and communications companies. For those reasons, I
believe we had an accelerated entry into our professional and
business endeavours.
