Why do we study history?

The question is that most of us do not find any future in history then why do we study
history. But to find the answer to this question first we will have to know what is
history. First of all, we should not take history as a subject but a story, a story of our
ancestors from whose life we could take many lessons. And that is what history is all
about, the life of our forerunners. History is an account of their experiences and
lifestyle, their actions and the result of that action. This is why we should definitely
study history. It teaches us what to do and what to not. It allows us to compare our
actions top the actions of our predecessors. We should learn the philosophy of living
from our antecedents. In short, we can say that the books of history help us to know
what is write and what is wrong learning from the people who came before. We must
not repeat any mistake that our ancestors did. It teaches us moral values. But today’s
generation is becoming more and more ignorant to the subject. They think the subject
to be boring as they have to learn many dates. But this way of thinking is very much
wrong and it will prove to be disastrous in their near future. Thus history is equally
important as any other subject and should be given respect.
