BK1: Reflective Blog on a takeaway in one of your enrolled courses

As a freshman student of Far Eastern University, I am new to the environment that I am

facing right now. The professors, my classmates from different places/ cities, the subjects, etc.
When the online class started on August 17, 2020. I had so much fun meeting all my new
professors and classmates even though some of them had a difficulty in terms of internet
providers, electricity, and unexpected defect on their laptops and phones. But this is not a
hindrance for us to learn even we are in a midst of a pandemic.
My favorite course right now is Readings in Philippine History. First, Readings in
Philippine History, since when I am still in grade school, I am so fond of history. I love
everything about history because it makes me go back to the old times just by imagining things
like “What if I was born on this Era? What am I doing? Am I helping people just like our heroes
do before?”. Those were the question that fills my mind every time my teacher was in front
teaching us about historical events.
According to Ambeth Ocampo, history is rooted in two words: salaysay, which means a
narrative or a story, and, the most important, saysay or meaning. The two components are
inseparable. Therefore, if we look for a deeper meaning of history, it will have the power to
change our perspective in life. History gives us identities and forms relationships, how people
and places are connected, thereby giving us a sense of being Filipinos.
As a student, future professional, and a Filipino citizen, history helps me to analyze and
think critically. It is important that it permits us to comprehend our past, which in turn allows us
to comprehend our present. All our questions, problems, cultures can be track using history. We
ought to have the option to see mistakes made before and ideally, we can learn and abstain from
rehashing them while simultaneously look and learn of the good things of the past. It enables us
to build up a lot of appreciation for recent developments today. As a student, it would be good
for us to have a general knowledge on Philippine history. It will help us to observe and
understand people and societies behaved. As Future Professionals, for instance, being a legal
advisor, it will give information that is utilized to make laws, or hypotheses, about different parts
of society. Moreover, history enlightens us to be a participative citizen such as being aware of
current social issues in our country.
Readings in Philippine History helps me to have a better insight into such things
concerned with the issues that are happening today. I appreciate more the present situation of our
country. The activities, recalling and drill on this subject given by our professor helps us a lot in
terms of thinking critically, voicing out our opinion, being innovative as well as being
imaginative to connect the past event in present to the future.
