Using Multiple FiireStudio Projects

P and
d FireStudiio Tubes

The 3.3.1 driver enab bles multi-unitt support for both the FireS
Studio Project and the FireeStudio Tube and
enables these devices to
t work togethher. For optim mum performance, PreSonuss recommends the following::

1. To begin the installation, first disconnect your FireStudio Project//Tube from yoour computer and
uninstall the old
o driver.

un the Uninstaller located in the PreSonuss FireStudio foolder in your Start menu.

2. Reboot your computer

c and run the 3.3.1 driver installaation, followingg the onscreenn instructions.

3. Connect one of your FireSStudio Projectss/Tubes and leet it sync to your

y computerr. Windows users
will need to run
r the Found New Hardwarre Wizard. When W the wizard launches, seelect “No, not this
time” and follow the on-sccreen instructioons. This wizard will launcch each time you
y connect a unit
to the chain.

5. Connect additional units too your compuuter in this maanner, one at a time, allow

before conneccting another FireStudio
F Prooject/Tube.

6. Once all yourr units are connnected and syynced, launch thet FireControol application. The devices will
be shown in the
t Unit Selectt page in the order
o of their internal ID number. The unnit with the low
west
ID number will always be ata the top of thhe list.

The driver will
w automatically assign onne of the devices at the master
m clock and
a the otherss as
“Slaved.” Too change the master
m device, simply select the unit you want
w to be the master clock and
change its Clo
ock Source to “Internal.” The
T other unitss will automattically slave to it.

7. Double-click on the Name Box under the unit badge in the FireContrrol to change the
t unit’s nam

reflect both itts order in the chain and to help
h you identify units.

Once you havve renamed your FireStudio Projects/Tuubes, power down each of the daisy-chained
units. Note the
t name of thhe unit that iss still synced to
t your compuuter and turn each
e of the daaisy-
chained units on, one at a time.
t Once yoou have indentified each unitt, it is highly recommended
r t
that
you reconnect the units in the
t order theyy show up in thhe FireControl (that is, the unit at the top of
the list should be connected directly to the
t computer and a subsequennt units shouldd be daisy chained
from it). If your
y units are not daisy chaained in the coorrect order, power them down and reconnnect
them using th he procedure outlined
o in Steps 4 throughh 6. Connecting your units in this order will
b performannce and will puut your inputs and outputs inn the correct order.
produce the best

In the example shown abovve, we have a FireStudio

F Prooject and two FireStudio Tuubes daisy-chained
together. Th
he FireStudio Project is at the
t top of list,, so its inputs and outputs will
w be FireStuudio
Inputs/Outputts 1-10. The Inputs
I on the FireStudio
F Tube labeled “FS S Tube Slave 1” are FireStuudio
Inputs 11-26. Its outputs are FireStudio Outputs 11--16. The FireeStudio Tube labeled “FS TubeT
Master” will be FireStudio Inputs 27-42 and its outputts will be FireStudio Outputts 17-22.

The order of the inputs andd outputs in your FireStudio chain cannot be altered.

It should also
o be noted thaat the inputs and
a outputs on each unit in thet chain are independent from
one another. This means thhat you cannott monitor the inputs from thhe first unit in the chain throough
the outputs ono the secondd unit in the chain unless you create a mix from within w your DAW
application. To easily mainntain zero-lateency mixing beetween the daiisy-chained units, dedicate a set
of outputs and a set of inputs from each device in the chain too send a receive a mix in the
FireControl application.
a

In the hook-u
up diagram beelow, you will see that a mix between thee free inputs ono the FireStuudio
Project and the m from FireStudio Tube #1
t returned mix # is being roouted out of FireStudio
F Prooject
outputs 7 and
d 8. This mix is then combinned with the frree inputs on FireStudio
F Tube #2 and sent on
to FireStudio
o Tube #1 com
mpleted the chaain.
This maay seem like a recipe for a feedback
f loop, but the DSPP functionalityy of the FireCoontrol application
eliminattes this problem. There will be a slight phasing
p on eacch of these mixes, so we reccommend that the
monitor mixes for each musician be b sent from the
t unit to whhich that musician’s instrum ment is conneccted,
rather thhan from one of
o the chained units.

Please Note:
N You cann daisy-chain up to four FirreStudio Projeects or FireStu
tudio Tubes in any combinattion.
However er, the ability to
t use more than
th two units simultaneoussly depends onn your compute ter’s specificattions
and opttimizations. If I you plan too use three or more units ata the same tim ime, installatioon of a dedicaated
firewiree bus with a tes
ested and appro
roved firewire chipset and att least 2 GB of
o RAM is highhly recommend nded.
