How COVID-19 is affecting the mental health of doctors and nurses

Reaction: (300=500 words

The spread of (COVID-19) across the globe and the associated morbidity and mortality challenged the nations . One such
underrecognized and unaddressed area is the mental health issues medical staff dev]lop during the pandemic. This
mental strain adds pressure to the emotional trauma nurses are facing on top of caring for many patients. The effects of
the coronavirus pandemic are pushing our nurses to their breaking points. nurses experience high levels of work stress
even under normal circumstances, but many would be reluctant to disclose mental health difficulties or seek help

The pandemic has hit the nursing workforce when staff are already experiencing widespread stress, mental health
problems, and burnout. Nurses have long struggled with burnout due to emotional exhaustion, disengagement, and lack
of support along with financial pressures, long shifts with little to eat or drink, and deaths of patients and colleagues, all
of which are contributing to nurses’ poorer mental health. There are reports about nurses being attacked for working
with COVID-19 patients, including being heckled, spat on, verbally abused and called “disease spreaders”. Nurses are
struggling to cope with the fact that they might bring the virus home to their families. healthcare workers are socially
distancing themselves from members of their own family, with some completely avoiding contact altogether.

How COVID-19 is affecting the mental health of doctors and nurses

Infectious disease outbreaks, like the coronavirus (COVID-19), can be scary and can affect not only our health but our
mental health too and many of us, even those who have no tbeen infected, will choose to quarantines in our homes and
some people is worried because of rapid and undetected spread of COVID-19 and isolate themselves . We are not only
suffering on mental health but also our frontliners like nurses and doctor battling with exhaustion and anxiety of
growing numbers of affected in covid 19. It is important to understand that healthcare workers are not just treating a
flood of critically ill patients during the pandemic at the same time they are risking their own health, witnessing higher
rates of death that that could lead to mental health issues..Its alarming because suicide among health workers are rising,
Frontliner healthcare workers are struggling with both mental and physical burdens from the surge of patient deaths
related to COVID-19. According to the article that I have read, doctors already have the highest reported suicide rates
more than double the general population. We should raise awareness regarding mental health, express our gratitude
and acknowledge their dedication and commitment of the frontliners’ towards our society.
