Process Question

1. What are the effects of the information revolution in today's global market?

 The effects of information revolution in today's global market are many of the business sector's
are able to do business through the existence of modern technology, like computer and gadgets.
They can easily to gather information that they need for their important transaction. Because of
the availability of information many of the country can sustain their social and economic
stability by the use of technology.
 Technology has reduced the role of human labor and shifted it from a manufacturing based
economy to one that is based on service work and the production of ideas rather than goods.
This has had a lot of residual effects on our economy. Computers and other technologies ara
beginning to replace many jobs because of automation or outsourcing jobs offshore.

2. What are the effects of multinational corporations in the Philippine economy?

 Multinational corporations doesn't have a negative effect in the Philippines economy, in fact
Philippines benefits from it. Because multinational corporations bring us money and different
jobs opportunities, that many of the Filipino people benefited from it. By accepting those
foreign multinational corporations here in the Philippines is not a quite possible for us to be
more globally competitive like other countries in the global market. Multinational corporations
help us also to improve our economic stability through the taxes that government collected
from them.

3. Analyze socialism and capitalism in relation with the Philippine society. Which of these economic
systems would work in our country?

 Capitalism and socialism are the two primary economic systems use to understand the world
and the way economies work. The capitalist economic model relies on free market conditions to
drive innovation and wealth creation and regulate corporate behavior. The socialist based
economy incorporates elements of centralized economic planning, utilized to ensure conformity
and to encourage equality of opportunity and economic outcome.
 I think Philippines are using capitalism economic system in which many of the private sector of
businesses are able to produce goods. The forces of supply and demand set the wages paid, the.
The cost of production of goods and the prices of goods and services in the market place. This
liberalization of market forces allows for the freedom of choice resulting in either success or
failure.

Activity: Weighing the Market

The history of global market brought positive and negative effects through time. At this point, market's
will be assessed through your own perspective provided that you already had a good grasp of different
concepts in economic and financial globalization. This activity will help understand the benefits and
harm's of global economic processes, structures, and technologies.

1. Listed below are the scenarios that have to do with the economy. In pairs discuss the major impacts of
these scenarios whether they are positive or negative (for you, for the country, or for the Filipinos). The
" Case by Case column can be used. Justify your answer.

Scenario Positive Negative Case by Case

A. ✓ Many of the farmers will suffered

for losing their jobs. There's the
possibility to have a food shortage
and price increase in the primary
source of food if they turned the
farmlands into real state and
exclusive subdivisions.

B. ✓ In case on having an issue with the

product you cannot return it
easily.

C. ✓ If there is a rice shortage the best

solution is to import, in order for
us to sustain our economic
stability.

D. ✓ Because even he accepted to

move or relocate to another
country to still employed, but he
cannot make sure that the
opportunity given on him will last
longer.

E. ✓ Is not fair for her because it is her

only chance to have that
investment funds when she gets
retired and yet maybe she cannot
use it because of that global crisis.

Scenario A: Agriculture is the main source of employment in your home province. The government has
recently decided to develop the farmlands into real state and exclusive subdivisions in order to attract
foreign investors to the country.
Scenario B: You decided to purchase a new shirt through an online shop based in London.

Scenario C: The Philippine government is being pressured by the current economic crisis to import rice
from Taiwan and other nearby countries in the region.

Scenario D: A multinational corporation decided to close. Unfortunately, your father is one of many
employees whose work has been terminated. However, he could be still employed if he were to accept
the offer to move or relocate to another country.

Scenario E: The global financial crisis has affected the investment funds of your mother that she can use
for her retirement.

2. How did you decide for each scenario? What are the pres and cons that you list down before you
came up with final judgement? Share with the class your responses to each scenario.

 Is not easy to decide and it's hard to decide, because in each scenarios there is a possible impact
either positive or negative.
 Before I came into final judgement I think so many times and there is an idea argued into my
mind if the scenarios are resulting into positive or negative but most of the scenario's have a
negative impacts between a simple citizen who live a simple life.
However besides of the negative impacts, there is also a positive impact that many of the people
benefited from it.

Process Question

1. Analyze the "global" nature of multinational corporations.

 These companies that extend beyond the borders of one country called multinational or
transactional corporation (MNC's or TNC's). They are also referred to as global corporations.
They intentionally surpass national borders and take advantage of opportunities in different
countries to manufacture, distribute, market, and sell their products. Some global corporations
are ubiquitous, like Mc Donald's or Coca-Cola and yet, they still market themselves as American
companies.

2. Do you think the positive effects of multinational corporations outweigh the negative effects? Why or
Why not?

 Yes, the positive effect of multinational corporations outweigh the negative effects. Because it
seems to be a lot of negative effects of globalization from transnational corporations. There are
however, positive effects. These include better allocation of resources, lower prices of products,
more employment worldwide and higher product output. These positive effects are most of the
country benefited from it but because of the poor workers that are willing to work for those
multinational corporations even they exploited and given a small amount of salary.

3. What do you think are the ways to lessen, if not eliminate, the negative consequences of
multinational corporations?

 Maybe they can reduced the negative effects of multinational corporations if not eliminated in
some ways. They must follow what is required by law. Like for example paying taxes, complying
with labor laws, and other government laws which are necessary in operating business in the
Philippines or in other countries. To avoid future negative consequences brought by negligence
and not following what is asked by the state, multinational corporations need to follow or
comply with all the requirements imposed by a particular country.

Process Question

1. Examine the interaction between the nation-state and international organizations. Which has the
greatest impact on government?

 Each nation-state is an international organization interacting with many kinds international

organizations within the total human social system. Nation-state feed into and interact with one
another at internal organization. Internal organization are not sovereign but states are, which
implies and is often the case that they control decision with in the state and their outward facing
relationships. The state can take legal actions and say words to force the government to do
things but the international organization cannot.

2. Do civil society and INGOs strengthen or undermine the role of the government international
relations? Why or Why not?

 Yes, because there are some aspects that INGO's are trying to do something like helping or
trying to carry out decent and humanitarian work where as governments try to exert soft power
for more or less selfish reasons. INGO's even they were separated from the government they
tend to hold governments to account but it was on them on how they really depends on
government policies. There are some circumstances that INGO'S adding pressure to government
to adhere to some progressive policies. But in some cases they do the opposite, like when two
countries are having conflict because of border problem, civil society can actually make it more
difficult for politicians to settled it.

3. Are the civil society and other organizations truly separated from the governments' action and
policies? In what ways can the state maintain its sovereignty and globalization?

 Yes, they are truly separated from the government actions and policies. Because a civil society
within a state can also act as a counterweight or as a supplement to a government.
 One of the key aspects of sovereignty is the government. Each state has its own right to self
determination and that other country should not intervene in the affairs of that state unless
there are extraordinary reasons to do so. Other countries must recognize sovereignty or the
right to govern one's own territorial borders. Each state is autonomous unto itself and
responsible within it's own system of government to those who are governed. The decisions the
conflict and resolution of that conflict are done through the institutions of government
established and codified in that particular state, weather or not through elections.

weak financial systems and government regulations.

information and information revolution?

 No, because the technology has already evolved those physical barriers and geopolitical
boundaries may become irrelevant in the future. As we all know that most of the countries are
