Riski Mardhatilah (2019): The Students’ Activities In English Club At

University Of Riau (Case Study Of English Club At University Of Riau).

This qualitative study was conducted to investigate the activities of

English Club in University of Riau. Furthermore, it was particularly intended to
answer four research questions: 1) How are the activities of the students in
English Club at University of Riau (case study of English club at University of
Riau). 2) What are the factors that support the activities of students in English
club at University of Riau? 3)What are the obstacles of students’ activities in
English club at University of Riau? 4)What are the achievements of students who
have become members of the English club at University o Riau? Data were
generated from multiple sources such as conducting observations as observer
participant, unguided interview and guided interview and documentation. The
data were later analyzed qualitatively to explore the activities of English Club in
University of Riau and the influential factors of it. The result of the analysis
concluded found the implementation of the activities in the club at each club tends
to facilitate debate classes and Speech classes. For general debate classes and
speech class the mechanism of activities for each group are not same. The factor
support student to join the activities are almost the same. Two of informant stated
the reasons because they wanted to join the competition. Two others members
stated, they join the activities because they wanted to improve their English
Ability. Furthemore, The obstacle of the of the students who have been
participating in the English clubs activities do not have sufficient ability in their
oral productive skill. Then, the achievement of the students who have been
participating in English club is one of the student join a competition but, do not
got any number,however, the others students stated that their achievement is the
activities lead them to active participation in the club. The findings of this study
provide the insights and recommendations for related authorities as well as
establishing chances for the further research on the activities in English Club and
other similar contexts.

 ABSTRAK

Riski Mardhatilah (2019): Aktifitas Mahasiswa dalam Klub Bahasa Inggris di

Universitas Riau (Sebuah Studi Kasus dalam Klub Bahasa Inggris di
Universitas Riau).

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melaporkan hasil dari kajian kualitatif yang
menginvestigasi Klub Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Riau. Penelitian ini juga
bertujuan untuk menjawab empat pertanyaan, yaitu: 1) Apa saja aktivitas Siswa di
Klub Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Riau (studi kasus klub bahasa Inggris di
Universitas Riau). 2) Apa faktor yang mendukung aktivitas mahasiswa di klub
Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Riau? 3) Apa faktor penghalang bagi mahasiswa di
klub Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Riau? 4) Apa prestasi siswa yang telah dicapai
selama mengikuti klub bahasa Inggris di Universitas Riau? Data dihasilkan dari
berbagai sumber seperti melakukan pengamatan sebagai pengamat partisipan,
wawancara tak terarah dan wawancara terarah serta dokumen terpandu. Data
dianalisis untuk mengetahui aktivitas klub bahasa Inggris khusunya di Club di
Universitas dan faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh. Hasil analisis menyimpulkan
pelaksanaan aktivitas di klub dalam kelas debat, speech dan public speaking
mekanisme pelaksanaannya berbeda. Faktor pendukung yang mempengaruhi
mahasiswa untuk mengikuti kegiatan adalah karena ingin mengikuti lomba dan
juga untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris. Kesulitan yang dihadapi
adalah tidak memiliki kemampuan yang cukup dalam berbahasa inggris,
rendahnya pengetahuan tentang kosa kata dan cara membuat kalimat dalam
bahasa Inggris. Selanjutnya, pencapaian selama mengikuti kegiatan English Club,
1 narasumber telah mengikuti perlombaan dan 3 narasumber lainnya
meningkatnya kemampuan bahasa Inggris. Temuan penelitian tersebut
memberikan pandangan dan masukan kepada pihak terkait sekaligus kesempatan
kepada peneliti selanjutnya untuk melakukan penelitian tentang English Club dan
hal terkait.
