III. Hypothesis Testing (10 pts. each):

1. A researcher found out that the mean age of a population of a province is 37
years old and its standard deviation is 2.5 years. He then took a sample of
1500 persons living in their city and found that the mean age is 39 years old.
At 0.05 level of significance, is there enough evidence to conclude that the
residents of the city are older than the residents of the province?
2. Mr. Barrio wishes to find out whether the grades of the students of Section A
significantly differs from the grade of Section B. The mean grade of Section A
is 88 and the standard deviation is 3. The mean grade of section B is 87 and
the standard deviation is 3.7. There are 17 students from Section A and 18
students from Section B. At 0.01 level of significance, is there a significant
difference between the grades of the two sections?
