Analysis Of Radial And Tangential Stresses Of A “Rotating” Disc

Figure: 3D FEM model of a “rotating” disc: Ri=50 mm, Ro=250 mm, Thickness T= 5 mm, material
properties: E= 210.000 N/mm2, Rho=7.9e-9 t/mm3, average element size 10 mm, rotation
velocity 250 rad/second

Geometry

The disc may be modeled by creating for instance:

• 2 circles (Ri = 50 mm; Ro=250 mm)

• Create a filler surface between the two circles

• and drag the surface by 5 mm which results in a closed 3D geometry

1

Save geometry as: 3D_disc_geom.hm

Meshing (file: 3D_disc_geom.hm)

For the volume meshing the “Solid Map Mesh” panel may be used.

Click on all unmeshed

Now click on Mesh.

This will mesh one of the surface. Now click on the edge selector and select the edge of the disc and click
mesh.

Save meshed geometry as: 3D_disc_meshed.hm
