Error Analysis
Read each of the following sentences, and correct any comma splices or run-on
sentences.
A recent study has reported that people who suffer from moderate depression can
reduce their symptoms by exercising regularly. For years, exercise has been considered a
mood enhancer, many physically disabled people have claimed to feel better emotionally
when they exercise. Therefore, a group of researchers examined the question of whether
The participants in the study were adults, they all suffered from depression. They
were divided into different groups, each group participated in different types of exercise.
Some subjects used a treadmill others walked and some exercised on a stationary bike.
After approximately three months into the exercise program, the researchers
discovered that exercise reduced depression, the participants who worked out for thirty
minutes at least three times a week reported half as many symptoms of depression. This

study suggests that the more these subjects exercised the less depressed they felt, but
It should be noted that the participants exercised with a partner or in a group so the
social interaction may have contributed to the reduction in depression, too. The most
important finding is that the benefits the subjects received were comparable to those
achieved with medication and counseling. To verify these results, it is suggested this
study be repeated with a larger population some of the participants should exercise in
groups, others should work out in pairs or alone, this will allow researchers to determine
if the beneficial outcomes resulted from the exercise routine or the social interaction. This
