1. What is Bart Weetjen’s organization? What does it do?
APOPO. It trains rats to find landmines buried underground.
2. Why does Bart think that rats are heroes?
The rats are heroes because they’re preventing many death and making the land
safe to farm again.
3. How do landmines make life hard for farmers and villagers?
Many of the mines are still active and can explode and kill people.
4. What lifesaving skill do dogs have?
They’re able to smell chemicals from human’s bodies that show the presence of
certain diseases.
5. What is one thing that rats and dogs both can do?
They can use their sense of smell in lifesaving ways humans cannot.
