DIRECTIONS: Answer the discussion questions based on the news report you watched.
1. How long have they been stranded?
They have been stranded and waiting for 6 months. 2. Where were they stranded? Guangdong China Sea 3. List down the difficulties experienced by 11 Filipino seafarers while they are stranded. 1. No more food supply 2. They have rusted water in which they boil it to make it safe but it still has effects on them 3. Stress and depression 4. China doesn’t want to give authority for them to go home, and the Philippine government keeps telling them to “wait patiently” 5. Also they are still at the boat even if their contract has ended months ago which means they are stranded and will not be paid. 4. Were they able to receive help or support from their families and the government? If yes, explain what are those. If no, explain why they weren’t able to receive assistance.? In my observation I could say that they weren’t given any help, the crew said and quoted “reached out” but they were only given the same exact response every-time they seek help which is “wait patiently” even food supplies from China or any assurance from both nations were given to them. Also no support was shown from their families they are only “waiting patiently” for help to come. 5. As a student seeing this kind of situation among Filipinos, what would you recommend in order to help these people. Give five (5) recommendations. At this point I don’t see how I can help but: 1. Try my best to make a charity event in social media to boost the people what’s happening not only in our country but outside our country 2. To show the video/ news in any social media platform and seek for help by using funds and donations 3. Trying to reach out to their family to give them somewhat of an assurance that they will be save and that they are safe 4. Donating or start a donation program/collaborate with other organizations that specialized with helping seafarers 5. As the school’s vice-president I can make a program or seminar about this, or a proposal to inform students what’s really happening and how we can help by giving our awareness to this problem.
