As instructed by you, the investigation committee has prepared a report on the fire that broke out
in the college canteen. This report comprises the cause/s behind the incident, the extent of
damage to the physical well-being of students and loss to property in terms of physical and
monetary damage. The last section of the report makes recommendations for preventing such
incidents in the future.

Causes: Under investigation, it was found that the fire was caused due to gas leakage. The gas
leakage was caused due to the use of old gas pipes in the canteen. It was found that the pipes had
cuts which caused the gas to leak out. The canteen was filled up with gas which let to ignition of
fire.

Physical harm to victims: The students and staff in the canteen were evacuated successfully by
the firemen. 2 girls were injured and taken to hospital and have been recovered completely.
There were no life causalities.

Extent of damage to property: As the fire was controlled by the firemen within less time it
prevented excessive damage to property. Canteen’s furniture worth Rs. 1, 20,000 were destroyed
and the equipment’s worth Rs. 50,000 were destroyed because of the fire accident. Apart from
these there was no damage to the property around.
Preventive measures: The worn out gas pipes should be immediately replaced and checked at
regular intervals for leakages. It is extremely necessary to install more fire extinguishers at
vantage points. Proper regulators must be installed to avoid the excess flow of gas. Students
should be trained to handle fire extinguishers. Fire alarms should be installed in the college
campus.
If the above measures are implemented forthwith, such accidents can be prevented in future and
thereby great loss to property and human can be averted.
