Mercedes Injection PLD

In the MR/PLD injection system installed in Mercedes-Benz vehicles, it may be difficult

to interpret the various configuration and setting functions to correctly complete repairs.
Below we provide a list of the descriptions of those parameters and the possible settings
presented on the regulations page (hammer/screwdriver icon at the top right) of the
Axone Motor Trucks release 3.0.0 auto-diagnostics program.

Warning: before performing any regulations, check the current value of the device to
be configured on the status page (0/1 icon at the top right) and evaluate the exact setting
to be input.

Oil level transducer:

With V6 OM501 engines:
Type 2 oil level transducer=Normal;
Type 3 oil level transducer= Frigo.
With V8 OM502 engines:
Type 2 oil level transducer=New oil sump (recognized by the M20 threaded drain screw);

Type 3 oil level transducer=Frigo or old oil sump (recognized by the M27 threaded drain
screw).
Starting with software release 51 (identified on the ISO page or by the final nr. for engine
164012) the 'Oil level transducer' parameter must be set to 3. After modifying the
parameter, the setting displayed by the instrument (when the engine is running) does not
display the current value but rather the last setting saved when the engine was off. The
current value is only displayed after the engine has been turned off and with the ignition
key turned on. Therefore, the oil level can only be detected by the sensor when the engine
is off and the ignition key on.

Type of oil sump:

With the V6 OM501 engine:
Type 0 is the standard oil sump;
Type 1 is the frigo oil sump.
With V8 OM502 engine:
Type 0 is the standard oil sump starting from engine number 013 132;
Type 1 is the frigo oil sump;
type 7 is used for the old standard oil sump, for engines up to number 013 131.

Oil pressure:
This parameter indicates whether the oil pressure sensor B12 or the oil pressure switch
S166 is installed.
The oil pressure switch provides the actual value "Oil pressure irregular" (0 bar) or "Oil
pressure regular" (4 bar). Check the actual value on the parameters page (unit of
measurement icon at the top right).
Oil temperature sensor:
If an oil temperature transducer is present, set the parameter to "ON" or to "OFF".

Type of starter motor:

Type JE = MR control unit directly controls the starter motor;
Type KB = the MR control unit does not control the starter motor directly.

Start-up torque multiplier:

When engine start-up is difficult, increase this parameter (threshold values 0…3.5).

Operating range:
EVO-bus = for all types of buses;
MB = for all types of industrial vehicles;
ATG = Automatic shift;
SG = Standard shift.

Type of fan:
If the diagnostics index for the FR (MFR) control unit installed is equal to or higher than
3, this parameter must be set on the FR control unit. In this case the engine control unit
parameter is meaningless.
For the Lining fan,
set the parameter to "Type 0" and set the proportional valves 3 and 4 to "ON";
For the viscous joint fan (hydrostat),
set it as "Type 3" and set the proportional valves 3 and 4 to "OFF".

Proportional solenoid valve 2:

Output of proportional valve 2 is set for management of the engine brake.
The possible settings are:
-"DVB" = Brake return valve
-"KD" = continuous throttle valve;
-"OFF" Output not used.
Proportional solenoid valve 3: Output of proportional valve 3 is set for management of
the fan.
For Lining fans, set it to 'ON';
for viscous joint fans, set it to 'OFF'.
In addition, ensure that the "Proportional valve 3 status" on the "Status" page indicates
the first level for a Lining fan. It can be active or "dash lines" can appear on the display
indicating that the proportional valve 3 output has been set to "OFF" or is broken.
Proportional solenoid valve 4:
Output of proportional valve 4 is set for management of the fan.
For Lining fans, set it to 'ON';
for viscous joint fans, set it to "OFF".
In addition, ensure that the "Proportional valve 4 status" on the "Status" page indicates
the first level for a Lining fan. It can be active or "dash lines" can appear on the display
indicating that the proportional valve 4 output has been set to "OFF" or is broken.

Proportional solenoid valve 5:

Output of proportional valve 5 is set to Oil separator or "OFF".

Proportional solenoid valve 6:

Depending on the actuator present, the output of proportional valve 6 can be set to: -
Re-circulation of exhaust gas; -
Exhaust gas throttle potentiometer; -
Turbo-compressor 2 activation; -
Heating flange; - "OFF".
