Models REMBOX2 / REMBOX4

Remote System Enclosures

INTRODUCTION The REMBOX2 and REMBOX4 Enclosures are used to house a Remote Person
Machine Interface (PMI-REM), an SSD-C-REM or CAN modules (LVM/FCM/LCM/SCM/
OCM/SIM). A Fireman’s Master Telephone (FMT) can also be installed in the
REMBOX4. The REMBOX consists of an outer door, an inner door, and a backbox as
shown in Figure 1.

The outer door and inner door are permanently hinged left. The REMBOX has a 3/4
inch flange on all four sides of the enclosure which is used for flush mounting applica-
tions.

The backbox is mounted on a flat surface with four user-supplied bolts that are a
maximum of ¼ inch in diameter.

INSTALLATION Prior to installation consider the following:

• Mounting height for visual and manual access to the Remote Person
Machine Interface (PMI-REM) displayed in the opening of the outer door.
• Weight and size of the enclosure.
• Local codes.

Install the backbox: 1. Select a clean, dry, shock and vibration free surface.
2. Position the backbox clear of obstructions so that the front door opens
freely and the controls and indicators are easily accessible.
When preparing the opening to flush mount the REMBOX, make sure it does not exceed
the dimensions of the enclosure. (Refer to the SPECIFICATIONS section on page 4 for
dimensions.)

3. Mark the locations of the two upper mounting bolts of the backbox on the
wall. (Refer to Figure 2.)
4. Drill the two holes located in the previous step and screw in the top bolts,
leaving a small gap between the wall and each top bolt.
5. Place the backbox over the two top bolts and allow it to slide down over the
bolts.
6. Mark, drill, and install the two bottom bolts in the backbox.
7. Tighten all four bolts securely against the back wall of the backbox.

Fire Safety
WIRING In compliance with NEC Article 760, all power limited fire protective signaling conduc-
tors must be separated a minimum of ¼ inch from all of the following wiring located
within a control panel:

• electric light
• power
• Class 1 or non-power limited fire protective signaling conductors
To meet these requirements, the following guidelines must be observed when
installing modules and wiring to this control panel.

When installing power limited field wiring, the installer must comply with NEC article
760-54, which states:

The fire alarm power-limited circuits are installed using Types FPL, FPLR, FPLP or
permitted substitute cable, provided these power-limited cable conductors extending
beyond the jacket are separated by a minimum of 0.25 in. (6.35 mm) or by a noncon-
ductive sleeve or nonconductive barrier from all other conductors.

Wiring Entering Enclosure Power Limited Wiring

All wiring entering the REMBOX is considered power limited. Wiring must be in the
shortest route and must not overlap any other wiring.

Install Wiring Wire in accordance with local codes and NEC 760.

1. Remove the knockouts in the backbox for the entry of field wiring. (There
are two knockouts each in the top and bottom of the REMBOX2 and
REMBOX4.)
2. Pull all field wiring into the backbox. Do not dress the wiring until the
location of all the equipment is known.

POST-INSTALLATION After the backbox and wiring are installed, complete the installation of the REMBOX
by installing the RNI, the optional tamper switch, the PMI-REM or SSD-C-REM, any
optional modules (FCM-6, LCM-8, SCM-8, OCM-16, SIM-16, FMT, LVM), and the
outer door.

1. Install the RNI on the mounting plate in the backbox. Refer to the RNI
Installation Instructions, P/N 315-033420. Refer to Figure 3 on page 4 for the
location of the RNI mounting plate.
2. (Optional) Install the HTSW-1 Tamper Switch. Refer to the HTSW-1 Installa-
tion Instructions, P/N 315-033350. Refer to Figure 3 on page 4 for the
location of the tamper switch knockout slots.
3. Install the PMI-REM or SSD-C-REM. Refer to the PMI/PMI-REM/PMI-INTL
Installation Instructions, P/N 315-033070, or the SSD-C-REM Installation
Instructions, P/N 315-034773, as applicable.
4. Install any optional OCM-16 or SIM-16 modules using the REMBOX2/4-MP
mounting plate. Refer to the REMBOX2/4-MP Installation Instructions,
P/N 315-034211.
5. Install any optional modules (FCM-6, LCM-8, SCM-8, FMT, LVM) in the inner
door of the REMBOX. Refer to the FCM-6 / LCM-8 / SCM-8 Installation
Instructions (P/N 315-033040), FMT Installation Instructions (P/N 315-064100)
or LVM Installation Instructions (P/N 315-034090).
