Instruction: Analyze the following abbreviated case scenarios related to the practice of the teaching
profession.

a. Mrs. Abrasado a secondary school teacher of Spring Valley College filed a letter of complaint to
the Office of the Principal of the said school. In her letter, she specified that she has been with the
school for ten years, a LET passer, has conducted several researches and been involved in the different
community extension activities of the school. And yet, was surprised upon given the result of her status
prepared and submitted by the ranking and promotion committee last July, 2019. It was reflected in the
document that she has retained her rank as assistant professor 2 for another two years as
recommended by the ranking and promotion committee. But she has known of one faculty who was
able to move from one rank to at least two ranks higher even without passing all the other criteria. As
the principal, what are you going to do? Is Mrs. Abrasado’s complaint justifiable? What provision in the
Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers will justify the complaint of Mrs. Abrasado? How are you going
to address the issue?

ANSWER:

I strongly believed that Mrs. Abrasado’s complaint is justifiable in a sense that according to the
provision in the Code of Ethics, Article VI – The Teacher and Higher Authorities in the Professions in
Section 5 states that “every teacher has a right to invoke the principle that appointments, promotions,
and transfer of teachers are made only on the basis of merit and needed in the interest of the service”.

Just so the Office of the Principal must merit Mrs. Abrasado for her continuous contribution for
the school specifying certain researches and different community extension that can help the said
school to improve and innovate. It is highly recommendable to set her in a higher rank and not to
retained as assistant professor 2 for another two years around and it is justifiable that she filed her letter
complaint.

Also, as the principal, we must abide to the Section 5 of Article VII – SCHOOL OFFICIALS
TEACHERS AND OTHER PERSONNEL, states that “School officials shall encourage and attend the
professional growth of all teachers under them such as recommending them for promotion, giving them
due recognition for meritorious performance, and allowing them to participate in conferences in
training programs”.

b. Mr. Domingo a high school teacher of Spring Valley College resigned from his job at the middle
of the year due to an opportunity abroad. Before he leaves the school he cleaned his drawer and locker
at the faculty room, he deleted all the necessary information in the computer unit at the faculty room
and brought with him all the records including the results of the exam, quizzes, school register and
others. When the substitute teacher came in, she started looking for all the records and the like for her
to start on. The principal thought all the while that the records are in the faculty room and directed the
substitute teacher to the faculty room. After a while the substitute teacher reported that all the records
were nowhere to be found, neither in the locker nor drawer, not even saved in the computer unit at the
faculty room. As a principal, what are you going to do? Is Mr. Domingo’s act/behavior justifiable? What
provision in the code of Ethics for Professional Teachers did Mr. Domingo violated? As the principal how
are you going to solve the problem?

ANSWER:

As a principal of the school, I will directly contact Mr. Domingo and ask some certain questions
concerned with the records and necessary information of the students like grades, quizzes, exam, school
register and the like. I will tell him directly that as a teacher, we have the code of ethics stated that in
Article V – The Teachers and the Profession of Section 3 saying that “before leaving his position, a
teacher shall organize for whoever assumes the position such records and other data as are necessary to
carry on the work”.

It is very ethical to save student files before leaving the position because it is the only way and
bridge for the new sub teacher to connect data from the students. We may leave the school but that
information especially student’s data and grades are essentially need by the school and must not delete
because it is important and not bring with you because the school may lose the data coming from the
student.

If Mr. Domingo reacts in the court for the misconception of his cleaning and unintentionally
deleted records, we can debate and look into Article V – The Teachers and the Profession of Section 4,
saying “a teacher shall hold inviolate all confidential information concerning associates and the school,
and shall not divulge to anyone documents which has not been officially released, or remove records
from the files without permission”.

c. Today I learned that it is very challenging as a future teacher to see like this guide for our name.
One wrong move and we may put into certain actions/effects or results thus we must study the Code of
Ethics not just for academic consumption but to accept the do’s and don’ts from us. We must see
situations as our decisions and put decision-making as part of our integrity. I learned that there are
many laws protecting and manifesting the rights of every teachers, students, and the school. We must
use these laws in order for us to be protected and not use this for manipulating other people.

TLA 10 - Assignment

Write a five-sentence letter to a classmate telling her/him on how to become a professional teacher
worthy of emulation as specified in the Code of Ethics for Professional Teacher.

"Joey, as we always speak to each other about our future vocation, may you / we be enlightened
by the Holy Spirit by carefully understanding Article II-The Teacher and the State, specified in Section 4
that “every teacher shall possess and actualize a full commitment and devotion to duty”. We pledge that
we do not neglect to actualize our full level of animation if we teach someday, just to commit and have
devotion to our profession. We may not be the generation's perfect teachers, but I can claim and expect
that we can be more than that, an influencer for aspiring youth to become visionaries, dreamers,
innovators, idealist, infinite in finding goodness and stewardship and producing youth leaders for social
change and reconstruction.
