1. Give 3 major scientific and technological developments mentioned in the video that created a
large impact in your daily life?

Answer: The 3 major scientific and technological developments that created a large impact in my
daily life are the invention of wheel, automobile, and the invention of electricity.

2. What are the historical antecedents that gave rise to the inventions you mentioned in the first
question?

Answer: The historical antecedent that gave rise to invention of wheels is the wheel-and-axle
combination, it was invented around 4500 BC and was probably fast used for potter’s wheel. The
initial wheels were made for the purpose of milling and were constructed out of stone. Wheels were
initially useful on carts and chariots pulled by oxen or horses. For the invention of automobile, the
historical antecedent that gave rise to it was a large three – wheeled vehicle that move at the speed of
a walk and was meant to haul cannon. Earlier cars had been driven by springs and compressed air.
Windmill – powered vehicles were before them. As for the invention of electricity, the historical
antecedents that gave rise to it was the Leyden jar, it was the first device that could store large
amounts of electric charge. The Leyden jar devised by the latter consisted of a glass vial that was
partially filled with water and contained a thick conducting wire capable of storing a substantial
amount of charge. One end of this wire protruded through the cork that sealed the opening of the vial.
The Leyden jar was charged by bringing this exposed end of the conducting wire into contact with a
friction device that generated static electricity.

3. How did these developments in science and technology shape human history?

Answer: Science and technology have completely revolutionized the way humans live. Inventions
and discoveries in science and technology gave mankind knowledge about the existence of man from
civilization and cultural points of view including the theory of how the universe created, the evolution
theory, as well as the discovery of genes. It has also created changes in all of humanity’s activities by
changing our means of transportation, the way we communicate, our clothing, our housing, our food
and the way we work, and in fact, even the length and quality of life itself. It has changed the way we
live and what we believe. It makes our life so much easier. It has allowed humans to pursue social
concerns such as ethics, education, and justice; to create cultures, and to improve human conditions.
But it also put us in a unique position of self-destruction. Truly, science and technology have had a
profound impact on our view and understanding of the world.
