Journal #6

September 22-24

On September 22, we were not able to attend our duty because we had our pinning rehearsal. On

this day we were supposed to be happy and excited since the next day will be our pinning

ceremony but it’s the contrary, we are all stuck in negative emotions because of our uniforms.

The agreed date of the release of our uniforms was supposed to be the 20 th but when we come to

the tailor, the pile of unfinished uniforms makes our blood run cold. The tailor didn’t even give

us an acceptable reason why they did not finish tailoring our uniform. They just told us to come

back until the day before our pinning day come and no uniforms were released. Some of the

parents even came to the tailor shop and express their anger at them for not releasing our

uniforms on time but all they say is “hulat lang jud mo gihaguan biya ni namo” “gipulawan gani

ni namo” “wala gani mi kaon para lang mahuman inyong uniform”. They only keep telling us to

come back when it is finished but when we come back it is still unfinished. They even had the

audacity to get mad at us for keeping on coming back until the night came and it is still not

finished.

T16: Appraisal Theory

Appraisal Theory has also taken a look at negative emotions – specifically anger. Studies have

found that people feel angry when they view an event or situation as personally relevant to them,

inconsistent with what they are trying to achieve and when this is caused intentionally by another

person.

Frustrated, disappointed, mad, and stressed are just a few of the emotion s we all felt at that time,

it was already almost 10 pm that some of our uniforms got released and it was still very
disappointing because it’s too big for me wala nila gisunod ang measurements namo even though

they got our measurements maybe it’s because wala na nagkadimao ila work kay gidali dali na

nila which is their fault. I even wanted to get it altered but I consider those na wala pa nahuman

ila uniforms so I just went home and try to be innovative I just put safety pins on the side of my

skirt just to make it look fit on me. My mother was even mad because we paid in full for it, but

we did not get what we paid for. I really believe that they didn’t start tailoring it early because if

so, they probably finished it ahead of time. Despite the circumstances, I even tried to be kind,

patient, and understanding and to them and controlled my anger and nisalig nalang jud ko ni lord

na mahuman ra jud among uniform.

T17: Opponent Process Theory

Psychologist Richard Solomon came up with an idea he called the “opponent process theory”

(paywall). Broadly, this states that whenever you feel one emotion, you’re slated to feel the

opposite next. This would explain why after feeling happiness, we feel slightly gloomy and vice

versa.

R6: Why You Must Take Your Childhood Dreams Seriously

The matter of fact is you still have a hold of that childhood passion you believe lost. It might be

buried deep inside from fear of pain and disillusionment. But you can retrieve it from the depths

of yourself. You can always open up that once deep-buried box and your childhood dreams are

going to be there, waiting for you. Of course, you might have to adjust your expectations. You

may not become the next president but you can help your local community – or shoot for the

stars and try to fix the system and go for it. You might not become a world-class musician, but
you can pick up your dusted cello once again and go back to weekly lessons. Following your

childhood dreams might make you turn into a happier, better adult and self-improvement.

On September 23, the day of the pinning ceremony. Everyone was looking so pretty and

handsome wearing our uniforms as if we weren’t stressed about our uniforms days before the

pinning ceremony. I feel so happy and excited that day because my family was there and also my

boyfriend. Despite what happened during the past few days our pinning ceremony was pushed

through, and nawear ra jud namo amo type A uniform. This moment means a lot to us, and it

feels really great seeing my batchmates pinned with their beaming smile. Also, the guest

speaker’s message was so inspiring and motivating, and her journey towards reaching her

childhood dream really inspires me not to give up on my dreams no matter how long it will take

because dreams will always come true jud diay. Although there were times I didn't think I would

make it, but now that I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I almost feel on top of the world. As

we sing our pinning song I felt like murag gifeel jud namo ang song like we were singing it with

our hearts jud and emotions maybe because of our kalagot sa tailor but nevertheless, we were all

very happy during that moment.

T18: Rational Choice Theory

Rational choice theory states that individuals use rational calculations to make rational choices

and achieve outcomes that are aligned with their own personal objectives. These results are also

associated with maximizing an individual's self-interest. Using rational choice theory is expected

to result in outcomes that provide people with the greatest benefit and satisfaction

On September 24, I was torn whether to attend my Saturday duty or to be absent, for the reason

that my family and boyfriend were there and I know that even though they are not vocal about it
they want to spend time with me because it’s been a while since I have seen them and when they

will go home we won't see each other again for a very long time. It really tested my decision-

making. I weighed it thoroughly and ended up choosing to spend time with my family and

boyfriend and not to attend my Saturday duty because I believe I can just make up for the

absence which is only a 3-hour. It’s really hard to choose between two things especially both are

important and indecisive pa jud ka that’s why it is important to choose a decision that you will

not regret in the end.
