Consequences of not using abbreviations correctly in chat

Nowdays, is commonly known that young people and adults use abbreviations to chat,
either by text message or on a social network, this is because It's faster and not
necessarily because It will be better understood.

Over the time there have been many investigations to demonstrate that the person who
is chatting with abbreviations, when is in a formal situation, does not writes or speak
incorrectly, that the person only mis use the abbreviations when is chatting with
someone in whom the person trust.

It is part of cyberculture of young people in the chat, that when writing messages they
use abbreviations or some kind of coded language that creates the sound structure of
words. This is slowly deforming the language because not only is done but
grammatically level spell prayers are losing significance. This type of language is
known online as Leet (malformation in English: elite).

Also, if the abbreviations are not used at the right moment or in the case that is used
with a person that doesnt know the meaning of the abbreviation whatever the person
who use the abbreviation is trying to communicate it will be misunderstood by the
receiver. Example: In the case that we are writing in abbreviated form we must know
that our parents may not know all the abbreviations as would our friends or companions,
perhaps our parents know the most popular or known but not all of them.

It is important to understand that abbreviations in chats and microblogs as well as

messaging systems cellular telephones (such as SMS), also known as English texting,
adapts to the need of comunicating in a limited space like in the case of twitter that only
allows 140 characters, and because of that abbreviations have been spread
spontaneously from its users.

Personally, I don’t usually use a lot of abbreviations while I’m chatting, as people may
not understand what Im trying to say or something like that, it's always good to write
everything in a proper way. So that way the person whom I’m writing wont use as
excuse that didnt understood the message I wrote , blaming it in the lack of letters or
words or even on coherence.

If we get used to using abbreviations when chatting we might lose the ability to
determine whether a word is correctly spelled or not. As if chatting is something that we
do the most, and if we exagerate the use of abbreviations, then maybe one day that we
will need to write something formally or when we are in an environment that requires it,
we will not know how to do it because we will be used to write the way we do when
chatting.

In conclusion, we should not exaggerate the use of Abbreviations while chatting,

because although it help us send a message faster it could as well contribute to the lose
of a proper spelling.
