Ansul Large Dry Chemical Systems
combine the flexibility of a hand portable
fire extinguisher with the larger fire-
killing power necessary to combat large
Class B (flammable liquids and gases)
and Class C (electrical) fires. The Ansul
system is ideally suited for protection of
extra hazardous areas where large fires
must be extinguished before they have a
chance to spread or increase in size.
The Ansul system offers the quick
response, large extinguishing agent
capacity, longer discharge time and
increased flow rates necessary to combat
these large fires. In short, they protect
areas which hand portable and wheeled
fire extinguishers cannot.
The basic Ansul Large Dry Chemical
System consists of: a storage tank to
hold a quantity of dry chemical
extinguishing agent; nitrogen cylinder(s)
to provide for pressurization of the tank
and fluidization of the dry chemical;
hose line(s) to deliver the agent from the
storage tank to the nozzle assembly;
and a nozzle assembly to control and
direct the flow of dry chemical to the fire.

How Does the Ansul System Operate?

A fire breaks out. The system is

1 activated either remotely or by manually Nitrogen gas released from the cylinder
opening the nitrogen cylinder valve. 2 moves through a high pressure line to the
regulator where it is reduced in pressure.

The gas enters the dry chemical agent

3 storage tank and fluidizes the dry
chemical. The dry chemical flows out of
the storage tank through the tank valve to
the delivery system, i.e., hoselines,
nozzles, turrets.
The nozzle assembly controls the flow
4 and direction of the dry chemical as it is
applied to the fire by the fire fighter.

Custom-adapted to your requirements.

The basic Ansul models offer a modular
package of fire protection. The real
strength of the Ansul system lies in its
‘‘custom-adaptability’’ which allows the
basic system to be adapted to your
requirements through the addition of one
or more of the Ansul options. The end
result is a fire protection system which
can satisfy your unique protection
requirements.
The long range nozzles increase the
range and flow rate of the dry chemical
agent while narrowing the stream pattern
(see diagram). The long range nozzles
allow the operator to effectively concent-
rate the flow of dry chemical agent at the
fuel source of the fire. This concentration
of agent is essential to the suppression
of flammable liquid/combustible gas
pressure fires.

If the Ansul system will be used in an
offshore, marine or coastline application
where it will be exposed to corrosive
elements, Ansul can provide a corrosion
control package. The package includes a
special epoxy coating for the agent
storage tank, nitrogen cylinder, skid and
hose reels for increased protection
against the effect of salt spray. Brass is
used in place of steel for all fittings and
pipe to resist corrosion.
Portability
If the Ansul system must be semi-
portable, Ansul offers several trailer
assemblies. (Note: Skids for the Ansul
500 through 3000 models are standard.)
For remote locations that require airlifting
of the Ansul system (i.e., offshore oil
rigs), a special lift bar is available.
Long Range Nozzles
If flammable liquid or combustible gas
pressure fires are a possibility, Ansul
offers two models of long range nozzles.

Properly used, the Ansul Large Dry
Chemical System quickly and efficiently
does what it was designed to do: put out
large fires before they have a chance to
spread or do severe damage to
equipment or facilities. But consider
some of the other benefits of the Ansul

Fire-Killing Power – The Ansul system
is the maximum manual firefighting tool
available. Its large agent capacity, long
discharge time and tremendous dry
chemical flow rate enable firefighters to
contain and extinguish fires they might
otherwise miss. It gives the fire fighter
confidence to attack and extinguish fires
before they become uncontrollable.
Efficient – Since it is manually operated,
the Ansul Large Dry Chemical System
allows the firefighter to use only the
amount of agent necessary to suppress a
fire. A manual system enables the fire
fighter to deliver the extinguishing agent
to the exact location of the fire. Once the
fire is suppressed, he/she simply turns off
the unit, thereby ensuring no waste of dry
chemical. Recharge of the Ansul System
is done on-the-spot, quickly and easily.

killing power, the Ansul Large Dry
Chemical System is the most effective
piece of firefighting equipment for three
dimensional and gas/liquid pressure
lines. These types of fires demand a
system which can deliver a large flow of
extinguishing agent at the point of the

carrying a flammable liquid or gas).

the Ansul system is the maximum
manual firefighting tool available, it is

contained, modular unit. Any one of the
basic models can be ‘‘custom-adapted’’

more hoselines, hose reels, selector

modifications or rework and can be done
