Acknowledgment

With grateful heart I would like to remember the individuals who have helped me direct
or indirectly to complete the practical session for the tensile test for the steel bar
(behavior of steel bar under tension) successfully and effectively. I wish to place on
record my words of gratitude to Ms.karziya (HND in Civil Engineering) Laboratory in-
charge in BCAS, Mr.suhoothi (BSc in civil engineering) and to Mr. Heron (HND in civil
engineering) those who guided us during the practical. I sincerely thank them for their
guidance and information. I would like to say that I noted this practical implementation
helped me to brush gray areas and to engrave in mind the theory knowledge. Finally I
would like to offer my special thanks to the institution (BACS) to provided laboratory and
every apparatus which was needed to the practical.
Tensile test on steel mild bar
Purpose of experiment

To study the behavior of mild or any other kind steel bars under tension and find out the
Young’s Modulus, Ultimate strength, percentage elongation

Apparatus
 Tensile testing machine
 Specimen (2mm Ø mild bar)
Procedure
 First of all we took 2mm diameter of steel mild bar
 Then place the test piece in position between the cross head of testing machine.
The specimen which we had it was not straight, so we fixed it and gave some
tensile force to make it straight(while placing the specimen should make sure that
the grips are tight enough to hold piece without slipping during test)
 After ensuring the specimen is straight set the load indicator to the zero and set it
to indicate the load in N
 Then gradually increase the load until it fails
 We stop the increasing the load and we took readings.

Conclusion
Mild steel mild bar has a much higher tensile strength and a modules of elasticity. It didn’t break
in brittle manner
