Toddler Strategy Sheet

Elias’ Goal: Elias will practice sharing with the children at least four times during toddler lab.

1. The teachers will model how to share toys with other toddlers and provide commentary for Elias
to listen to and practice. (Toddlers and Two’s Chapter 15)

2. The teachers will offer suggestions of how he can play alongside his peers and share his toys
with them. (IELG D4 G44 Ages 16 to 38 Months S10: Provide opportunities for each child to play
and interact with others during pretend play (washing baby dolls)).

3. The teachers will describe his actions as he practices sharing with other toddlers and explain to
him why it was important. (Pre and Post Lab discussions)

Elsie’s Goal: Elsie will communicate what she wants through signing and/or speaking at least 3 times
during toddler lab and practice her gross motor skills specifically in her left arm.

1. The teachers will practice hand-over-hand techniques when additional help is required to reach
to higher areas or pick up heavier toys. (Pre and Post Lab discussions)

2. The teachers will practice model language as they use signs and/or words to offer choices to
help her request different items. (Toddler’s and Two’s Chapter 2)

3. The teachers will ask her open-ended questions and/or questions that give her choices and
require expressive language on her part. (IELG D3 G35 Ages 16 to 38 Months S4: Talk to child
about preferences, and ask questions or expand on their responses (e.g., “Which one do you
think Billy would like?”)).
