Council on Tall buildings and Urban Habitat

Council on tall building and Urban Habitat, commonly known as CTBUH, was
founded by Lynn S. Beedle, in year 1969 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania. Prior to 1976, the committee was known as “Joint Committee on
Tall Building,” a group formed by International Association of Bridge and
Structure engineers and the American society of Civil Engineers in 1969.
The idea of forming a Joint Committee was much more than the desire of
collaborating. The need arose from concerns like Exploding urban population,
creating increased demand for tall building, need for economy in construction,
often neglected human factors, expense of livability and quality of life, new
research required in the field and the necessity of establishing priorities for such
reasons.
CTBUH, missions to spread information on tall buildings and future cities. The
Committee publish a wide range of research papers and videos, representing a
trove of information capturing urban innovations across industries, geographies
and generations. Along with featuring numerous conferences, wherein they give
a chance to learn from distinguished experts on latest in tall buildings,
infrastructure and urban development, gain knowledge and insight in the latest
thinking on sustainability and related issues, networking with top,
internationally- influential people in the industry and much more. Colleagues
from all disciples are encouraged to attend including professionals, namely,
architects and urban planners, building owners and Managers, Insurers and
Legal firms, Codes and regulatory Authorities, Fire and Safety professionals,
Geotechnical/ Foundation firms, Building Occupiers, Façade firms, Material
Suppliers, NGOs and Academicians.
CTBUH puts great foot forward even for the young architects and students,
giving them a chance of getting recognized at International levels. Providing a
platform to compete, interact and gain knowledge. CTBUH organizes various
competitions such as International Student tall building Design Competition-
with the goal to shed new light on meanings and value of tall building in
modern society, Students Research competition: Tall Building Performance-
with the aim to assist talented students, working in groups under the guidance of
professors, to focus on relevant research question, and creating an engaging
output as a response.
