During absolute cold startup (50°C metal temperature) of turbine, waiting time for fulfilment of X2-criteria (curve between main steam saturation temperature and midwall temperature of HP Control valve which is a prerequisite condition before opening ESV) is observed to be very long. The delay due to low metal temperatures of HP control valves required steam pressure for fulfilling the X2 criteria is also very low. It is required to warm the HP control valve body by opening the HP stop valves thus allowing the main steam to pre warm control valves. Siemens follows similar philosophy as per STIM 12.001. The following procedure may be adopted to pre warm control valves: 1. The stop valves shall be opened above 10 bar main steam pressure with a superheat of at least 50°C. MS pressure should not exceed 20 bar. 2. The stop valves are to be closed, after achieving 150°C control valve midwall temperature. 3. The stop valves to be closed if MS Pressure exceeds 20 bar. 4. The above activities shall be performed, when silica content in steam is less than 0.05 mg/Kg. 5. Once 150°C control valve midwall temperature is achieved, HP stop valve to be closed and subsequently opened after achieving X2 Criteria and designed steam purity level with silica content < 0.02 mg/Kg. j VV Manag€f, STE-FESDISTRIBUTION: 1.
