Stepped Bar with Vertical Load

Procedure:

1. In ‘Start’ menu search for ‘Hypermesh’ and open it by clicking on the appropriate option
2. On startup window user profile dialog box is prompted where RADIOSS radio button is to be
selected and ‘Bulk Data’ from the options in the dropdown list against selected radio button.
3. Click ‘OK’ and select ‘Geom’ radio button on the right side of the screen.
4. Go to ‘nodes’ options and create nodes by putting in the following coordinates and clicking ‘create’
after putting coordinates for each node.
a. 1st Node : X–0 Y–0 Z–0
b. 2nd Node : X – 50 Y–0 Z–0
rd
c. 3 Node : X – 100 Y–0 Z–0
5. Click ‘F’ for making all the nodes visible on screen.
6. Click ‘Return’ and go to ‘1D’ radio button on the right side of the screen.
7. Go to ‘bars’, select ‘bar2’ radio button and ensure that the element type is ‘CBAR’ with orientation
‘Y axis’.
8. Then select 1st node and 2nd node, and then 2nd node and 3rd node.
9. Click ‘Return’ and go to ‘HyperBeam’ option.
10. Here select ‘standard section’
a. Standard Section Liabrary: Hyper Beam
b. Standard Section Type: solid circle
11. Click ‘create’ and change the radius to 20mm, return back to ‘HyperBeam’ option by clicking on
‘exit’ button in the dropdown list of ‘File’ option.
12. Again click ‘create’ and keep the radius 10mm, return back to ‘HyperBeam’ option.
13. Click ‘return’ and in ‘collector’ toolbar select ‘material collector’.
14. Select the ‘create’ radio button & fill up following credentials and click ‘create/edit’ and update
fields ‘E’, ‘NU’ & ‘RHO’
a. Mat name steel
b. Color choose any
c. Type ISOTROPIC
d. Card image MAT1
15. Click ‘Return’ and in ‘collector’ toolbar select ‘property collector’.
16. Select the ‘create’ radio button & fill up following credentials and click ‘create/edit’
a. Prop name steel1
b. Color choose any
c. Type 1D
d. Card image PBAR
e. Material steel
f. Beam section auto_standardsection.1
17. In ‘User Comment’ section tick mark the option of ‘Continuation Line 2’ and fill the following
values and click ‘Return’
C1a: 20 C2a: 0 D1a: 0 D2a: 20 E1a: -20 E2a: 0 F1a: 0 F2a: -20
18. Change Prop name as ‘steel2’ and Beam Section as ‘auto_standardsection.2’ and click ‘create/edit’
19. In ‘User Comment’ section tick mark the option of ‘Continuation Line 2’ and fill the following
values and click ‘Return’

20. Select the ‘assign’ radio button click on ‘element’ button and select 1st element
a. Type 1D
b. Property steel1
21. Click ‘assign’ and select 2nd element and change Property as ‘steel2’
22. Click ‘assign’ and ‘Return’.
23. Go to ‘collector’ toolbar & select ‘load collector’ .
24. fill up following credentials and click ‘create’
a. loadcol name spc
b. colour choose any
c. card image no card image
25. Click ‘Return’ and select ‘Analysis’ radio button on the right side of the screen.
26. Go to ‘constraints’ option and select 1st node and click ‘create’ and ‘Return’.
27. Go to ‘collector’ toolbar & select ‘load collector’ .
28. fill up following credentials and click ‘create’
a. loadcol name force
b. colour choose any
c. card image no card image
29. Click ‘Return’ and go to ‘forces’ option and select 3rd node, assign ‘magnitude’ as 10000 N and
select orientation as ‘Y axis’ & proper ‘magnitude %’ and click ‘create’ and ‘Return’.
30. Go to ‘loadsteps’ and with following credentials click ‘create’ and ‘Return’
a. Name bracket
b. SPC spc
c. Load force
31. In ‘File’ menu click on ‘Save’ button and select the required destination and click ‘Save’.
32. Go to ‘RADIOSS’ and click on ‘RADIOSS’.
33. If the analysis failes, then click ‘Return’ and resolve the errors and again click on ‘RADIOSS’.
34. If/When the Analysis is completed, close the analysis window and click on ‘HyperView’.
35. In ‘Results’ toolbar select ‘Contour’ option.
36. Check out the final results keeping Result type as ‘Displacement’ and ‘Elemental stresses’ and
applying proper analysis criterian.
