ENERGY SYSTEM IN DANCING

I. Introduction

The energy systems are three: ATP-PC system, Anaerobic glycolysis system and Aerobic system.
ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate, when a molecule of ATP is broke down, the energy is released. It depends on simple and
short chemical reaction, it makes a huge contribution to anaerobic exercises, which are intense.
During the anaerobic system we have the lactic acid production, which is activated when we do intense exercises. It has more
complex chemical reactions than ATP, and provides energy when the muscle is under intense pressure or anaerobic exercises
when oxygen is not present like aerobic activities.
At last, the aerobic system depends on the oxygen to provide energy to the body an fulfil these lower intense activities. An
important fact is that this system provides more energy than the anaerobic system, that's why it's better to longer activities, it gives
more endurance.
After knowing a little of each type of system, we see that all of them are important. So, the best way to optimize our whole
energy system is to using these three in the best context possible. Doing activities that improve each of them, that way we will
always feel energize.

B. Learn
In this activity, you will identify the dance forms that are most appropriate and suited to your exercise needs. The
different dance forms will serve as your physical activity or exercise and shall constitute your regular fitness activity
this semester. In the table below, identify the dance forms by checking the box that represent your interest as a
fitness activity, your level of confidence, your desire to learn and improve your skills and your choice in organizing a
fitness or dance event.

C. Engage
A plumb line is a rope with an attached weight (called the plumb bob) that is suspended to provide a vertical line of reference in
assessing static posture. Pair up and ask your partner (mother, father, sister etc.,) to march in place and then stand still with the
plumb line along the body’s midline, feet hip, width apart, arms relaxed on the side and eyes looking forward. Assess your partner
from the anterior (front) and then lateral (side) positions. Record your observations. Deviations from the plumb line indicate
musculature imbalance and poor posture.
Be guided by the following points while assessing your partner.

A. ANTERIOR YES NO

1. Are the fit parallel, or are they turning inwards or outwards?

2. Are the knees rolling inwards or outwards?

3. Is the top of the thighs in line with the top of the lower legs?

4. Is the chest elevated or it is collapsed?

5. Is the throat long and visible, or is the chin falling forward?

B. LATERAL

1. Is the body weight over the heels or is it falling forward?

2. Are the knees slightly flexed or pressed back and locked out?
3. Is one or both shoulders rolling forward, or are they forward along with the rest forward along with
the rest of the head.

4. Are the holes of the ears in line with the bony part of the shoulders, or are they forward along with
the rest of the head?

5. Are the ears, shoulders and hips level?

D. Apply
The foundation of a typical ballet class includes exercise on the floor, on the barre and on the center of the dance studio
with the mirror. Even if the mentioned materials are not available in your school or at home, ballet exercise can still be enjoyed
everywhere. Items like chair, mats and wall can still be used.
Demonstrate the following Ballet-based Exercise through video presentation.
